Minecraft streamer KurtJMac sets date to reach “end of the world” after 14 years

After more than a decade of walking across Minecraft’s endless terrain, streamer KurtJMac has announced the exact day he will finally arrive at the Far Lands.

Kurt began his journey in 2011 with his series Far Lands or Bust, attempting to reach the distorted edge of the map that appears 12,550,821 blocks from spawn in older versions of the game. The Far Lands were caused by a terrain generation bug that was later patched, but the glitchy region has remained one of the game’s most famous landmarks.

Along the way, Kurt has also raised nearly $500,000 for charity while documenting the marathon trek and holds a Guinness World Record for the longest Minecraft journey. And his commitment is about to pay off.

Journey to the end of Minecraft coming to a close

On September 21, Kurt revealed during a livestream that he expects to reach his destination on Saturday, October 4.

“Me and the girlfriend sat down and figured it all out. How it would make the most sense. Give us time to appreciate the journey remaining,” he said. “But the day that y’all should take off work… is Saturday, October 4th. In two weeks. Unless a terrible miscalculation has taken place, we will reach the Far Lands after 14 and 1/2 years.”

He even gave fellow Minecraft creator AntVenom a nod on stream, telling him to head to Twitter with the “inside scoop.” AntVenom had previously estimated Kurt’s arrival window by analyzing his rare F3 debug screen presses, which have only happened a handful of times in over 14 years.

The Far Lands may not be the true end of Minecraft, but for the community, they represent the game’s ultimate frontier, and KurtJMac is just days away from making history.
