No Man’s Sky has hit its biggest player count in nearly a decade, with over 110,000 concurrent players logging in on Steam for the first time since 2016.
According to SteamDB, the milestone was reached on September 7, 2025, shortly after Hello Games rolled out its latest major update, Voyagers. The free expansion has introduced new Corvette-class starships, expanded base-building features, and added new co-op features.
It’s these exciting features that have brought both new and veteran players back to the planet-hopping survival game. No Man’s Sky originally peaked at 212,000 concurrent players on Steam during its controversial launch in 2016, but numbers quickly plummeted as backlash grew over missing features.
In the years since, however, No Man’s Sky has undergone one of the most dramatic turnarounds in gaming. Hello Games has steadily delivered dozens of free updates, ranging from VR support to living ships, fleets, and new planetary biomes.
No Man’s Sky player count surges
However, it’s the Voyagers update that has reignited that momentum. At its peak last weekend, No Man’s Sky outperformed major live service staples like Destiny 2 and Warframe in concurrent players.
It also places the game among 2025’s biggest comeback stories, even beating Hollow Knight’s resurgence, which saw 20,367 players log into the game following Silksong’s release date announcement.
While Silksong flew past 550k players just hours after launch, No Man’s Sky’s resurgence nearly a decade after release highlights how far it has come from its rocky beginnings.
Once written off as one of gaming’s most disappointing launches, No Man’s Sky has steadily built itself into one of the most resilient success stories in the industry.
