Plenty of Xbox games have started making their way over to PlayStation, and April saw all of the PS5’s top sellers come from Microsoft.
There was a time when the idea of first-party games appearing on a rival console was virtually unheard of, meaning that PlayStation players had to stick to their God of Wars and Gran Turismos, while Xbox hoarded Halo and Gears of War.
However, the lines in the sand have become more blurred in recent years, as Microsoft has become increasingly willing to release its games on PC and, most importantly, PlayStation. Even some of Xbox’s flagship IPs have made their way to the rival platform, as evidenced by the reveal that Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original, is launching on PS5 on August 26.
If this is a sign that the ‘console war’ that raged for much of the 2000s and 2010s is over, then the news that the best-selling games on PlayStation 5 in April all came from Xbox might just put it to bed for good.
Xbox dominates the charts on PlayStation
Sony shared a breakdown of the most-bought games on PS5 in April, and it’s no surprise that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered took the top spot in the US and Canada. The long-awaited remake of the classic RPG became 2025’s third best-selling game, so don’t be surprised to see it stick around on the charts in future months too.
Of course, it was published by Bethesda, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2021 when it bought parent company ZeniMax Media for over $8 billion. This sparked fears that future Fallout and Elder Scrolls releases might skip PlayStation platforms, but Oblivion Remastered arrived on PS5 on day one.
Meanwhile, the top seller in the EU and third in the US was Forza Horizon 5, after the critically-acclaimed racer arrived on PS5 on April 29. This was the first time that one of Xbox’s flagship series made the jump to Sony consoles, as Forza, along with Halo and Gears of War, have historically been the platform’s biggest selling points.

Rounding out the top three is Minecraft, which was second in the US and third in Europe, despite being well over a decade old. Although the sandbox has remained ever-popular since its release in 2011, it’s likely still riding the success of A Minecraft Movie, which made over $800 million at the box office and brought fresh attention to the game.
Although it was developed and released before, Mojang Studios is also a subsidiary of Xbox Games Studios after Microsoft bought the developer for $2.5 billion in 2014 — at the time, one of the largest acquisitions the video game industry had seen.
There was plenty more Xbox influence throughout the top 10. Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 has seen great success on Xbox Game Pass, while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is another Bethesda game that launched on PS5 on April 17.
This is likely only the beginning of Xbox’s presence on PlayStation, so expect plenty more of Microsoft’s major IPs to make the jump in the future. Following Gears and Forza, could Halo be next?
