IO Interactive, developer and publisher of the legendary Hitman franchise, is working on a new James Bond title called 007 First Light. Here’s the full rundown on every detail we’ve got so far.
With the last significant James Bond game launching in 2012, it’s fair to say the IP is ready for a refresh and a brand new title to bring it back to life, especially while we all wait for a new live-action Bond to be announced.
Luckily for us, IO Interactive, the developer of the Hitman games, has picked up the mantle and revealed they’re working on a Bond game, originally codenamed Project 007.
While we’ve known about the project since its announcement back in 2020 with a short but sweet teaser, a formal unveiling didn’t come until 2025. 007 First Light is now fast approaching and we’ve got the rundown on all there is to know.

007 First Light release date
007 First Light will come out on March 27, 2026 on all platforms.
This release date was confirmed during the State of Play deep dive on September 3, 2025.
Platforms
007 First Light is set to arrive across PS5, Xbox Series X | S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
That means it’s a current-gen only title, with no plans to launch across earlier hardware, at least not anytime soon.

First Light story details: James Bond’s origins
While much had been speculated, we now know for certain 007 First Light focuses on Bond’s, well, first steps in the ‘double 0’ program.
For starters, we know the game is a “completely original story” in the Bond universe. That means it doesn’t feature any known Bond actor, nor will it retell any story we’ve seen in the films thus far, it’s something fresh instead.
Also teased in a 2024 IGN interview, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak implied it will be just the beginning of the “young Bond” portrayal, with plans to make a full-fledged trilogy as we see this iteration of the character grow in front of us.

007 First Light trailers
We got our first proper look at First Light in 2025 as IO Interactive lifted the veil on its James Bond game. The initial trailer revealed Bond himself as well as a bunch of gameplay, mixing stealth, shootouts, and some Aston Martin chases as well.
Before that, our very first teaser came all the way back in 2020 as IO announced its work with the legendary IP.
Although the teaser trailer didn’t provide us with much information, hearing the Bond theme is enough to get any fan of the old games hyped for the upcoming title’s release.
On September, PlayStation gave us a closer look at the gameplay for the upcoming James Bond game. It looks to be Hitman-inspired with lots of driving sections.
And that’s the full rundown on the new James Bond game coming soon. Rest assured, we’ll keep you up to speed here with any further details as they emerge.
