
2025 marks 40 years since Super Mario Bros. debuted on the NES in Japan, and Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are coming to the Nintendo Switch.
During the September 12 Nintendo Direct, the company confirmed that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be bundled together for release on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. The collection launches physically and digitally on October 2, 2025.
Mario anniversaries have long been marked by major releases. For its 35th anniversary, Nintendo released Super Mario 3D All-Stars for the Nintendo Switch, which included Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy.

Those looking to buy Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 separately are in luck, as Nintendo has added both games to the eShop as different listings. You can preorder them now, and they are $39.99 each.
Super Mario Bros Galaxy Switch release
Two new Amiibo were also announced alongside the bundle, featuring Mario and Rosalina. A new Mario Tennis entry titled Mario Tennis Fever was also revealed, in addition to confirmation of a Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
But that’s not all – Nintendo also revealed the name of the next Super Mario Bros movie, as well as the cast for the 2026 release.
Chris Pratt will return as Mario, and Bowser will be voiced by Jack Black yet again.
