Where to get all ores and crystals in Monster Hunter Wilds

Mining in MHW

It wouldn’t be Monster Hunter Wilds if you didn’t spend an absurd amount of time sifting through Gemma’s endless selection of craftable gear – if only you had those elusive crystals and ores.

Honestly, I’m convinced that most of my playtime is spent staring at menus. At this point, I’ve even started taking the Smithy’s lines personally. “Knowledge is my strongest weapon?” What about that awesome Insect Glaive I’m trying to craft, which just so happens to need Fucium Ore?

In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to find all the ores, crystals, and shards you’ll need in Monster Hunter Wilds so you can finally get that gear you’ve been eyeing.

Every way to get ores in MHW

In Monster Hunter Wilds, ores are essential for forging powerful weapons and upgrading your gear. There are three primary ways to gather ores in the game:

  • Mining Outcrops
  • Hunting Monsters
  • Festival Shares

Let’s explore each method in detail to help you gather the resources you need.

Mining Outcrops

This is by far the most common method to get ores, crystals, and shards is to simply mine them as you explore the world.

To locate Mining Outcrops, open your map and use the filter option to focus on gathering items. From here, select the Mining Outcrop filter, and your map will highlight their locations. You can also set waypoints for your Seikret to follow, guiding you to the closest outcrops.

Remember, each Mining Outcrop may yield more than one ore, so be sure to check multiple times when you revisit them.

Hunting Monsters

By speaking with Alma and starting optional quests, you can defeat certain monsters that reward the ores you’re looking for.

To check a monster hunt’s rewards, hover over the quest icon and press R1/RB on console or E on PC to see all the rewards. Ores are usually listed at the very bottom.

Festival Shares

Friendly villages will share their Festival items with you, which are almost always some form of ores you can use to forge weapons.

By speaking with Roqul at the Smelting Foundry in Azuz, the Everforge, for example, you can claim the Festival Shares from this village.

You’ll meet two more along the way; one for the Kunafa in the Windward Plains and one for Suja village near the end of the main story. That said, all three NPCs will be unified into one in the endgame: Nata. You can just approach Nata at any base camp near Alma and claim your Festival Shares from this location alone.

That’s enough ores for a lifetime, I think. When it comes to getting other regular materials, though, you can forget about it and just passively farm them with Material Retrieval.
