Gears of War is getting a remake and it’s coming to PlayStation 5

Gears of War reloaded

Microsoft has just announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remake of the franchise’s debut title, and it’s the first Gears game to come to PlayStation.

Ever since it was released by Microsoft on the Xbox 360, Gears of War has been a franchise that Sony fans have been dying to play on their console.

It’s remained exclusive to the Xbox for over a decade at this point, although it made its way over to PC with the release of Gears of War 4.

Now, PlayStation fans can be excited as Microsoft has announced a remake of the original title… and it’s coming to the PS5.

Gears of War: Reloaded announced for PlayStation 5

Gears of War: Reloaded, launches on August 26, 2025, for $39.99, and is “optimized for more platforms than ever before.”

At launch, the game will be available on Xbox Series S|X, PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Being that it’s a first-party title, the game will be available on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass on the day it releases.

If you already owned Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the May 5 announcement, Xbox is giving you Reloaded as a free upgrade.

“Gears of War: Reloaded is a celebration of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. Featuring 4K resolution, 120 FPS support, and the ultimate multiplayer experience with cross-progression and cross-play, across all platforms, this is the definitive way to experience the game that started it all,” said Microsoft in a blog.
