Former Rockstar Games boss Leslie Benzies has heaped praise on the developers behind GTA 6 amid comparisons to his new venture, MindsEye.
Amid the silence from Rockstar Games about Grand Theft Auto 6, plenty of games have popped up as potential rivals to the long-awaited title. They all focus on the key aspects of a GTA game – they’re open-world, allow you to do all sorts of crimes, and have a solid story.
One in particular has caught the attention, however. MindsEye, the first game from Build a Rocket Boy – the studio created by Leslie Benzies and a few other former Rockstar devs – is in the spotlight because of that Rockstar-laden history.
It is set to release in June, just ahead of GTA 6’s apparent launch in late 2025, which would allow fans plenty of time to get stuck in and really ramp up those comparisons.
Leslie Benzies lifts lid on GTA 6 & MindsEye comparison
Benzies is happy to be compared to the highly-anticipated next installment of the GTA franchise and believes Rockstar has some “geniuses” behind it.
“There’s always comparisons. The first question that gets asked is always about the old game, but I think that’s human nature,” the former Grand Theft Auto dev told GamingBible at the BAFTA Awards.
“You know, it’s what happened to Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, [people] were more interested in Nirvana. It’ll take a bit of time for us to find our own identity.”
He is, however, excited to play GTA 6 himself. “Absolutely,” he said when asked if he is looking forward to diving in.
“[There’s a] great amount of geniuses there always creating something new, unique and of a scale that very few others can actually pull off.

As noted, GTA 6 is supposed to launch towards the end of 2025. Rockstar and Take-Two, their publishers, have remained quiet on that but are “confident” in the launch window. They’re also preparing for a shorter marketing period, so hopefully, that’ll start before long.
