Take-Two, the publishers behind Grand Theft Auto 6, are still confident that the game will release in May 2026 despite fears of another delay.
At the start of May 2025, Rockstar Games broke the hearts of many Grand Theft Auto fans as they announced that GTA 6 would be delayed until May 26, 2026.
The iconic game developers stated that they need “this extra time to deliver at the level of quality” that fans “expect and deserve” from them. However, there have been fears that the game will slip again given Rockstar’s silence around it.
Those fears were only increased when Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson stated that he believed it would move to October 2026. However, that was only Henderson’s personal feeling, not an official report.
Take-Two still thinks GTA 6 is coming in May 2026
Plenty of worried fans ran with that, thoug, and have started bracing themselves for another delay. Yet, Take-Two has not shifted from the May 2026 release date.
During their Virtual Annual Shareholder Meeting on September 18, Rockstar’s publishers stated that the game is still slated for May 26, 2026.
“As we bring our exciting lineup to market, including Grand Theft Auto VI in Fiscal 2027, we expect to achieve record levels of Net Bookings that will establish a new baseline for our business and set us on a path of enhanced profitability,” CEO Strauss Zelnick commented.
“Rockstar Games continues to invest in the franchise and announced that Grand Theft Auto VI, which was expected to launch in Fall of Calendar 2025, is now planned for release on May 26, 2026, during our fiscal year 2027,” he continued.

Zelnick added that Rockstar “will share more details in the future” as well.

Amid the long wait for the next Grand Theft Auto, Take-Two have constantly said that they will let Rockstar take the lead. They want all announcements to come from the game’s developers.
Rockstar have somewhat broken their silence on GTA too, recently referring to the game as Grand Theft Auto 6 for the first time in a job listing. Previously, they had only called it Grand Theft Auto VI.
Additionally, Rockstar claimed it would be “the largest game launch in history.” However, they have since removed that from the listing.
