GTA 6 leak resurfaces with wild new “$200m” claim

A long-time Grand Theft Auto 6 leak around the game’s water physics has resurfaced, pardon the pun, with a wild new claim about the possible budget behind it.

Even though Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed until May 26, 2026, the hype has not died down for Rockstar Games’ next release. Fans are still poring over the two trailers and nearly 100 screenshots for possible hints and information.

Long-standing claims that some fans may have forgotten about have, at times, resurfaced as well. That includes one about Rockstar Games’ updated RAGE engine having better real-world physics, weather effects, and interactions with the Vice City residents.

This all came from the French outlet, Rockstar Magazine, back in 2023. “After months of research, experimentation, and optimization, engineers at the Californian studio have achieved the feat of physically simulating water in an open-world video game in real time,” they said, noting some of the big work gone into improving water physics.

GTA 6 water physics leak returns with new claim

Well, there have been some new claims added to that report from X (formerly Twitter) account gamernewsonx.

They claim that Rockstar has invested between $200 and $300 million in improving the water physics, including the addition of surfing, hurricanes, and low tide scenarios. “Rockstar Games has assembled a team of 20 top engineers exclusively dedicated to water physics modeling,” they also added.

The new team and possible surfing mini-game was mentioned by Rockstar Magazin almost three years ago, but the crazy budget for things is a new claim.

Naturally, some fans aren’t buying it whatsoever. “300 mil for water y’all believe anything,” one fan replied. “Please be serious. Rockstar are not paying $200+ million for 20 engineers to develop water,” another added.

“Brother, respectfully, they did not spend 10% of the budget on f*cking water,” another chimed in.

It is very unlikely that Rockstar would have blown so much money on one part of the game that didn’t relate to the story. But, it has certainly got the GTA community talking.
