GTA 6’s Fall 2025 release window has come under scrutiny for months now as Rockstar has yet to reveal a second trailer, but a new announcement might have fans breathing a sigh of relief.
Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has remained confident that GTA 6 will release in Fall 2025, but the fears of a setback have lingered, especially with the CEO admitting a delay was possible.
As we inch closer to Fall and a second trailer still yet to be announced, fans have begun to feel like it’s just a matter of time until Rockstar confirms their worst fears.
On April 29, an announcement was made – and it’s not one you might expect. But it might end up being the best piece of news Grand Theft Auto fans have had in a while.

Borderlands 4 moves up release ahead of GTA 6
In a video spread across social media, Borderlands 4’s development chief Randy Pitchford revealed that the game was moving its release date up from September 23 to September 12.
“Everything’s going kinda the best case scenario. The game is awesome, the team is cooking and so the launch date for Borderlands 4 is changing. This never happens, you guys! This never happens! We’re moving the launch date forward!” he said.
Borderlands is also published by Take-Two, and it wouldn’t make sense for the company to have two of its games compete with each other. After all, plenty of other studios are scared of going up against GTA 6 and are actively avoiding Fall 2025 out of caution.
By moving the release date forward, it would give Borderlands 4 more time to shine before GTA 6 launches weeks later and steals the spotlight – a theory many shared.
However, Pitchford soon looked to claim the pivot came in no relation to GTA 6, or any other game for that matter.

“Borderlands 4 shipping early is 100% the result of confidence in the game and development trajectory backed by actual tasks and bu find / fix rates,” he said. “Our decision in literally 0% about any other product’s actual or theoretical launch date.”
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how the situation unfolds, but fortunately, we may not have to wait much longer.
A Take-Two investor call is scheduled for May 15 and the company will surely either once again double down on a Fall 2025 release date for GTA 6, or, if we’re lucky, a new trailer could arrive before then.
