GTA 6 is set to be a huge game packed with things to do, but many fans are wondering how long it will take to beat the main story.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated games of all time. The follow-up to GTA 5 has been well over a decade in the making, and Rockstar are finally revealing details on its map and characters.

But after such a long wait, fans will be hoping that it keeps them occupied for months or even years. Luckily, some early leaks have revealed how long the main story will be compared to Rockstar’s other games.

How many hours will GTA 6 be?

GTA 6’s main story will be less than 50 hours long, according to a leak from trusted insider, ‘LegacyKillaHD.’ Back in 2024, they reported that Rockstar’s next game will be “shorter than Red Dead 2,” which clocked in at just over 50 hours when focusing on the main story.

This means it will likely be closer to the length of GTA 5, which took around 32 hours to beat if you stuck to the golden path. However, there’s no official number we can give until we get our hands on the game in May 2026.

Just because it’s reportedly slightly shorter than RDR2, that doesn’t mean that you’ll be short of things to do. Just like every other Grand Theft Auto, the campaign is only one of many activities that Vice City will have to offer.

From the trailers alone, we’ve seen fishing, races, and even cage fighting for you to sink even more hours into. That’s not to mention the numerous side missions, random encounters, collectibles, and just general exploration.

This was backed up by LegacyKillaHD’s leak, as they mentioned there is plenty of side content to get stuck into.

Plus, GTA 6 will likely feature an online mode, either at launch or later down the road. This means that if you run out of single-player missions to do, you’ll be able to join up with friends and wreak havoc together.

Game Length

Without an accurate number to put on GTA 6, it’s hard to say where it ranks compared to Rockstar’s other games, but the leaks have revealed that it will be less than RDR2. With this in mind, we’d expect it to be somewhere between the 30 and 40 hour mark, placing close to or just above San Andreas and GTA 5.

However, given the size of GTA 6’s world and the massive leap forward in terms of graphics, it’s possible that they could go for a slightly shorter story and rely on the extra activities to keep players hooked.

Either way, just like with GTA 5 before it, while the main story might not be a 100-hour epic, GTA 6 will likely keep players coming back for years.
