One of PlayStation’s bosses isn’t too worried about GTA 6 negatively impacting other games on release, noting it’s “definitely gonna be a big economic boost” for gaming.

When Rockstar Games finally showcased Grand Theft Auto 6 at the end of 2023, the iconic game developers announced it would be released at the end of 2025.

However, in the time since then, Rockstar’s silence has created concern for fans. There have been fears that the release could slip into 2026. Though, Take Two, Rockstar’s publishers, are confident it’ll be with gamers before then.

Some games are also reportedly holding off on their marketing plans because of the game, fearing they’ll be dominated by Grand Theft Auto. However, PlayStation’s Greg Rice has a more positive outlook on things.

GTA 6 will be an “awesome” year for game

Rice, who is one of PlayStation’s main players when it comes to indie games, sees GTA 6 as having a massive boost for gaming as a whole.

“[GTA 6 is] going to be the best, awesome, giant game for the year, for sure,” he told GamesRadar. “I hear a lot of the opposite of devs, worried about it sucking all the space out. But I think the industry is matured enough that there’s space for that and for other things as well.”

Rice noted that “there’s lots of gamers” who will “only” play GTA 6 once it drops, but that isn’t a bad thing.

GTA 6 fans are growing impatient with Rockstar’s silence.

“It’ll be the opportunity to get in on the new console generation and see what else is out there. So it’s definitely gonna be a big economic boost for the games industry, and will be a multiple billion dollar title, but I don’t think that it’s at competition with [indie games],” the PlayStation man said.

“Everyone’s just waiting for GTA 6 to do it,” he said.
