Kingdom Hearts 4 may have been announced way back in 2022 as part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, but it’s far from a forgotten game, with updates slowly dropping in to keep fans begging for its release.
It’s safe to say Kingdom Hearts is one of the biggest franchises in gaming. Alongside Final Fantasy, CoD, GTA, and the likes of Mario, Kingdom Hearts has managed to retain its position as one of the greats for over 20 years. Luckily, it shows no sign of slowing down, with Kingdom Hearts 4 on the horizon.
However, while it has been three years since it was announced, the Disney adventure still hasn’t graced our consoles and PCs. So, here’s all you need to know to ensure you’re ready for when it does release.
Is there a Kingdom Hearts 4 release date?
Unfortunately, no, there’s no release date for Kingdom Hearts 4 yet, as it wasn’t given when the game was initially announced on X.
However, during a recent post on X, in which Square Enix shared various new screenshots (which you can check out below), they also explained that they “can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience.”
On top of this, Kingdom Hearts 3 was released six years after its initial announcement. So we could have a long time to wait. With that in mind, it could be as far off as 2028.
Do we know the platforms?
While there have not been any specific platform announcements, it’s likely Kingdom Hearts 4 will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S | X, and PC, though it may come to Steam slightly later, as KH3 did.
Whether it comes to the Nintendo Switch 2 is up for debate following the highly divisive cloud port of the original game, but with the new console and its hardware, it could run a little smoother.

Screenshots
While there are no recent trailers, after over 1,000 days of waiting, we finally received some brand new screenshots for Kingdom Hearts 4, featuring a view of the UI and gameplay, a potential playable Mickey, and some of the game’s protagonists.
There are seven different images in total, and it certainly looks like a major graphical upgrade. Though the possibility of a playable Mickey is what’s grabbed the community.
Kingdom Hearts 4 soundtrack
In an interview with IGN, the legendary composer Yoko Shimomura revealed that she is working on the soundtrack of Kingdom Hearts 4.
Shimomura explained that she’s writing “a number of songs at the moment” for the game. However, she did not reveal any more, keeping us in the dark for the most part.
So, that’s all we know about Kingdom Hearts 4. While waiting for the game to release, be sure to check out some other upcoming games, like The Elder Scrolls 6, GTA 6, and Wolverine.
