The current Magic: The Gathering release schedule for 2025 is absolutely stacked with crossovers and original in-universe sets that can appeal to both dedicated fans and newcomers alike.
Wizards of the Coast have shared a look into MTG’s 2025 release calendar, and some of what’s to come in 2026 and beyond. From a return to a beloved plane to exciting crossovers with Final Fantasy and Marvel, we’ve got all the details you need about the future of the TCG.
Magic: The Gathering 2025 release schedule

Innistrad Remastered – January 24, 2025
Following on from sets that remastered Dominaria and Ravnica, the trio of MTG’s most widely beloved worlds is complete with Innistrad Remastered.
Innistrad Remastered offers a mix of cards from every prior set in the plane so you’ll get to have zombies, werewolves, vampires, and spirits in your hand.
The set is full of powerful cards and much-needed reprints from all across Innistrad’s storied history, from its initial gothic outings and the eldritch reign of the Eldrazi, right through to Midnight Hunt’s folk horror and Crimson Vow’s unholy celebrations.
Aetherdrift – February 7, 2025
One of the wildest swings the TCG has taken in recent years saw a crossover between Wacky Races, Redline, The Fast And The Furious, and Mad Max.
Aetherdrift takes full advantage of the Omenpath era, crossing over between multiple worlds in the game’s multiverse. It has proven to be one of the game’s more out-there experiments, but the exciting new mechanics and suite of Artifact-oriented playstyles introduced have certainly been worth it.
Tarkir: Dragonstorm – April 4, 2025
The first ripples of the Dragonstorm arc have already been spotted in Bloomburrow, and it will be fascinating to see how this story builds and concludes in this return to the plane of the Dragonlords.

Tarkir is a fantastic, fully-developed plane that deserves a return trip. Without the time-traveling quirk of its original block to contend with, players will get a chance to see just how Tarkir has evolved in the aftermath of the Phyrexian invasion.

Wizards of the Coast has already given some hints as to what players can expect. Rising against the threat of despotic dragons, the five Clans of Abzan, Jeskai, Sultai, Mardu, and Temur have thrown down the gauntlet to challenge this new calamity.
Expect a major focus on these three-color combos, both on the tabletop and in the emerging story of this set.
MTG Universes Beyond Final Fantasy – June 13, 2025
2025’s first Universes Beyond set in the MTG release schedule is shaping up to be one of the most sought-after collections of products in the history of the game. Wizards of the Coast has partnered with Square Enix to deliver Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy.
To account for the massive undertaking, this will be the first Universes Beyond set to be fully standard legal, and reveals have already come flooding in to help players adjust to the meta-changing implications of that. One particular card has already split the MTG fanbase thanks to the game-breaking combos it has the potential to enable.

The massive success of Universes Beyond: Fallout proves Wizards of the Coast has what it takes to deliver satisfying videogame adaptations in MTG, and Final Fantasy is rife with iconic characters and stories that are deserving of focus in this set.
Edge of Eternies – August 1, 2025
While Magic has always contained elements of sci-fi and interplanar travel, 2025’s Edge of Eternies set is a space opera that will shoot from the stars and deliver some classic outer-space adventures.
Featuring bold planetary themes and alien Creature designs, MTG Edge of Eternies is sure to be another fascinating genre experiment after successes like Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty and Outlaws of Thunder Junction.
This space opera is sure to take players to realms unseen and introduce new dimensions to MTG’s gameplay.
MTG Universes Beyond Avatar: The Last Airbender – November 21, 2025
The second crossover set in the 2025 Magic: The Gathering release schedule takes on the animated classic; Avatar: The Last Airbender. Fans of the TCG had been theorizing about the collaboration following some hints on MTG Arena and the set was finally confirmed at MagicCon: Chicago.

The setting is absolutely perfect for an MTG collaboration and it will be interesting to see how Wizards adapts the identity of the four elemental nations into its various color combos. With a rich roster of characters, locales, and creatures to draw from, expect the second-ever standard legal Universes Beyond set to be packed with incredible cards.
We can already see our 8/8 Appa with Flying and Trample being a menace on the board.
Return to Lorwyn – Q4 2025
Wishes are finally being granted with a locked-in return to this beloved plane. Lorwyn has captured the hearts and imaginations of fans like few sets before or since, making this one of the most hyped releases in what’s going to be a busy year.
The dual world of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor may be a lot to fit in a single set without the luxury of block releases, but we’re sure to see many fan-pleasing elements of this non-human, Celtic-inspired setting all the same.
MTG Universes Beyond Spider-Man – TBA 2025
MTG’s Marvel crossover has the potential to be the biggest Universes: Beyond set so far, and this first offering will focus exclusively on your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The partnership between Wizards of the Coast and Marvel offers a potential treasure trove of sets so it’s interesting to see one hone in on a single superhero.
Of course, if anyone has a varied enough gallery of rogues and allies to fill out an MTG set, it’s Spider-Man. Precious little is known about this set at present so it remains to be seen how narrow its scope will be.
Fortunately, Spider-Man is no stranger to team-ups and it’s possible we could see the introduction of other Marvel heroes like Dare Devil and Wolverine who have a history of fighting alongside the web-slinger.
Return to Arcavios – Q1 2026
Strixhaven: School of Mages proved to be an extremely popular MTG set, featuring powerful and engaging factions. Giving a distinctly American spin to the classic wizard school trope, players should see more just its school setting in 2026.
If the glimpses beyond the bounds of Strixhaven in the original set are anything to go by, this should be a fascinating release that puts the magic back in Magic: The Gathering.
What are the biggest upcoming releases?
There’s no denying that all eyes will be on Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming crossovers with Marvel and Final Fantasy in 2025. Two of the biggest multimedia franchises of all time are being woven into the Magic multiverse, and fans are rabid to find out how characters like The Avengers and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn will become part of the game.

What’s interesting about the Final Fantasy crossover is that Square Enix currently makes a competing TCG using its popular RPG series, yet it seems they were down for a crossover with their biggest rival in the space.
Regardless, fans will be hyped to see characters like Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Gilgamesh, Estenien, Kefka, Tifa Lockhart, and Chocobos added to Magic: The Gathering.
The Marvel crossover is going to be even bigger, with an incredible potential for pre-con decks. Pretty much every team has the potential to receive a Commander Deck full of iconic characters, to say nothing of the multiverse shenanigans that MTG is already known for.
Fans are still going to care about the other sets releasing this year, but the Final Fantasy and Marvel crossovers are a big deal to the gaming world at large.
How often are MTG sets released?
Over the past few years, MTG sets have typically been released every month and a half – two months. Releases will range from core sets to Commander Decks and Universe Beyond content.
For example, 2023 saw the launch of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One set on February 10, followed by March of the Machine on April 12, and the Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth Universel Beyond crossover on June 23.
If the past is any indication, we can expect a similar type of release pattern in 2025 and beyond, with new sets arriving regularly over the year.
That’s all we know about the Magic: The Gathering release schedule for 2025 and beyond. For a look back at details on 2024 sets, check out our coverage on Modern Horizons 3, Bloomburrow, and Outlaws of Thunder Junction.
