We love a good Marvel Rivals fight. That said, we don’t love unbalanced matchmaking. As it stands, Quickplay is the wild west, and players are not happy about it.
Marvel Rivals has different matchmaking rules for ranked and quickplay. Ranked uses skill-based matchmaking (SBMM). It mostly pairs players with others close to their rank. Bronze players face silver, silver faces gold, and so on. The goal is, of course, fair fights.
Quickplay, however, prioritizes speed. It throws players into games fast, balance be damned. This often leads to huge skill gaps. A rookie might find themselves against seasoned veterans.
Quickplay is not ranked. No matter how much you beg that fourth DPS to swap, you’ll get the dreaded response: “QP.” Translation: Team comp be damned, I guess. What should matter is a balanced matchmaking system. Unfortunately, Marvel Rivals doesn’t seem to have one.
How to check a Quickplay player’s rank
Want to see if matchmaking really hates you? Check your match history.
- Click your profile, then go to the HISTORY tab.
- Select the match in question.
- Left-click a username and hit View Career.
You’ll probably see a mix of ranks – or none at all. In theory, QP shouldn’t mix extreme ranks. In reality, it does.
One unlucky player got steamrolled by a full squad of One Above All players. “Needless to say, we didn’t get a single kill. We had just come out of a three-game win streak, so maybe the game was setting us up to lose? I just don’t get how that’s supposed to be fun.”
Another player summed up the experience: “This season, quickplay games aren’t even competitive. It’s just stomps one way or the other. Having this system in place is just awful.”

Marvel Rivals is still evolving. Will devs fix quickplay matchmaking, just like they did the rank reset? Maybe. But for now, brace yourself whenever you hit Quickplay.
