Marvel Rivals Clone Rumble mode has massive downside for meta characters

Full team of Mister Fantastics in Marvel Rivals Clone Rumble

Marvel Rivals‘ newest limited-time mode, Clone Rumble, has arrived, but it comes with a major downside if you main one of these meta heroes.

Every Marvel Rivals event brings something unique to the table, whether it’s a brand-new game mode or free skins to unlock. Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure is no exception, offering a host of cosmetics to work for, including the new Mrs. Barnes Black Widow costume.

It also comes with the new Clone Rumble LTM, which lets teams pick the same character multiple times. It leads to some seriously chaotic matches as 12 Hulks duke it out, but not every hero is included.

Powerful heroes banned from new Clone Rumble mode

At the start of every Clone Romble match, both teams vote for a character, before being able to pick which of the two winners they want to play as. However, there are some notable names who you can’t select, as they’re marked red to indicate they’re unavailable.

There are six in total who have been exiled; Doctor Strange, Loki, Cloak and Dagger, Luna Snow, Invisible Woman, and Adam Warlock. This may come as a disappointment to many players, since the likes of Doctor Strange and Cloak and Dagger are some of the strongest and most popular in the entire game.

Why have these characters been banned?

NetEase hasn’t explicitly mentioned why these heroes have been excluded from Clone Rumble, but there are a number of factors that have likely contributed. All of these fan-favorites have abilities that could be a disaster when applied to as many as 10 players, both from a gameplay and technical point of view.

For example, a lobby where there could be 12 of Doctor Strange’s portals would be a nightmare for anyone trying to navigate the map, not to mention the strain it would put on the servers. The same can be said for Loki, as there could potentially be 36 clones of him around the map at any given time.

When you apply this logic, it’s easy to see why these six heroes didn’t make the cut. Adam Warlock’s resurrections could lead to a scenario where players simply never die, Luna Snow and Invisible Woman’s ultimate would bring too much healing, and Cloak and Dagger are already two characters in one.

The good news is that these characters are all still available in Quick Play and Competitive, so you can still use your mains in regular matches. But if you want to complete the event and unlock the Black Widow skin, you’ll need to at least dip your toe into Clone Rumble.
