Marvel Rivals players demand “perfect” OW2 feature to show off skins

Marvel Rivals new skins

Gameplay, maps, and unique characters aside, Marvel Rival’s most popular feature is undeniably its creative skins. Fans go crazy for them, working through the battle pass or spending real money on their favorites. Now the playerbase is demanding a feature from Overwatch 2 so they can better show them off.

As Marvel Rivals goes through seasons, new skins arrive for characters. Whether it’s romantic designs for the Fantastic Four’s favorite lovers, a Spring Festival look for Iron Fist, or a Vampire Hunter style for the Winter Soldier, fans jump at the chance to make their main look unique and beautiful.

However, while it’s still a third-person game, meaning you can see your character’s skin as you fight, fans are now demanding a simple but “perfect” change to the hud, this time calling for an Overwatch 2 feature to come to Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals needs simple Overwatch 2 icon feature

Overwatch 2 is a first-person title, meaning players don’t often see their Hero during a battle. That is aside from the new Stadium mode, which is set to bring third person. To combat the lack of visuals, OW2 has an Icon in the bottom left corner of your gameplay, showing off your skin and hero.

Now, Marvel Rivals players have caught wind of the idea, and have taken to Reddit to showcase how fantastic the feature would be for the game.

“I wish our icon reflected our equipped skin” shared one user, going on to showcase an edit they made of the feature and how it would look in the hud.

The design itself would show the front of your chosen skin and would change anytime you changed your character’s look, allowing you to see more of what you purchased.

They quickly clarified that “for gameplay reasons, the other players will still have default icons” so combat isn’t confusing if two skins look too similar. Though, fans did suggest that it “could easily be a toggleable option as well, if you don’t have trouble differentiating skins.”

Shortly after sharing the idea, thousands flooded into the post to share their support, with over 6k upvotes and tons of comments offering their support. “This would be perfect and probably not a lot of work” shared one fan, with another echoing the thought, saying: “I love this idea!! I hope they consider it in the future.”

Others compared it to Overwatch and even Apex Legends, with some showing their surprise that it’s not already in the game: “I’m surprised Rivals doesn’t have it when OW has had it since launch. Seems so obvious.” Another wrote, “Been wanting this since I started playing Apex years ago.. seems so simple from the outside. I wonder why it’s not implemented.”

One of the reasons this feature may not be implemented is due to Lord Icons. These Icons are rewards for hard work with a specific character, so players may want to show them off instead of the skins.

Alternatively, it could be a lot of work to make icons for every skin, aside from the notion that most Lord Icons “are just frames from MVPs/character select/hero page poses with fancy effects,” making it pretty easy to adapt with new designs.
