After seeing Human Torch gameplay in action, Marvel Rivals players worry his and Storm’s team-up ability will upset the meta.
Human Torch’s full list of abilities leaked in late 2024, offering some insight into the type of gameplay he’d bring into the hero shooter.
One aspect of his powers that caught the attention of the Marvel Rivals community was his team-up ability with Storm, which will allow him to enhance the X-Men character’s already formidable Ultimate attack.
And now that players have seen the full breadth of the team-up in action, many have expressed concerns about how it’s going to impact the game.
Marvel Rivals players predict Human Torch will be overpowered
In the lead up to the Season 1.5 launch, developers revealed a first-look at Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch. Members of the community have already labeled him Iron Man 2.0.
Plus, Human Torch’s area-of-effect and dive attacks make it look as if he’ll be a menace on the battlefield. As such, some players expect bans will become the norm for this founding Fantastic Four member in competitive matches.
Wrote one player in a Reddit thread about the gameplay reveal, “Yeah the entire video was basically ‘yeah this guy is going to be perma banned’ lol.”
Another person commented, “His kit is actually insane. I’m expecting him to be permabanned due to how much pressure/zone control he can apply…”
Others have expressed concerns about what could become a “Storm/Torch meta” due to their team-up combo, which will see his Ultimate empower hers for a fiery hurricane.

“I boldly predict Storm/Torch meta will not be fun to play against,” reads one such comment.
And, based on the video, it appears the combined attack deals enough damage to even kill enemies through Luna Snow‘s Ultimate.
One person shared their thoughts saying, “He and/or Storm will be guaranteed comp bans. You can’t let the other team have an ult combo that strong.”
Several people in the thread predict Storm will likely sit on the receiving end of bans for the next half season, as well.
It’s worth noting that since this is just a gameplay trailer full of character highlights, there’s no way to know how exactly these new mechanics will impact gameplay. But it’s clear Duelist players have plenty to look forward to when the next update drops.
