Freja leaves Overwatch 2 with a whimper thanks to DDOS attacks

The DDOS attacks against Blizzard’s servers heavily impacted all of the company’s games, but one of the biggest victims was Freja.

Freja is Overwatch 2’s next Damage hero and was praised for her slick and skillful gameplay. Like most new heroes from Overwatch 2, she received a temporary hero trial where players could pick her in most modes outside of Competitive to test her before her official release in Season 16.

Unfortunately, as these play tests are timed, players can only test her out for a brief time. But thanks to the DDOS attacks impacting all of Blizzard’s games, Freja unfortunately was met with an unfortunate reality of a half-baked test as players struggled to log onto the game.

Freja’s play test ends unceremoniously in Overwatch 2

Blizzard’s servers were spotty over the weekend thanks to a series of DDOS attacks unrelated to Overwatch. However, as Blizzard’s games share servers, this impacted Overwatch 2 as well.

“I can only play Overwatch on the weekends, so the fact that this is happening every weekend like clockwork is beyond frustrating,” wrote one user.

These DDOS attacks are unfortunately timed as Overwatch 2 is holding numerous timed events at the moment. Not only is Freja’s play test set to end today, but the current 6v6 competitive test is also temporary.

“Blizzard is TRYING to ruin 6v6,” said Durpee, an Overwatch 2 content creator. “Servers [are] crashing daily and [Blizzard is] banning players for it…”

Blizzard introduced strict leaver policies in Overwatch 2 for leaving Quick Play or Competitive matches. Unfortunately, due to the DDOS attacks, players are getting unfairly banned for leaving games out of their control, which would obviously impact the amount of time players can play Freja even when servers are stable.

“The worst thing is people getting banned due to disconnecting,” said one player. “DDOS attacks may not be Blizzard’s fault, but it’s certainly not the players’ faults.”

There’s no word from Blizzard on how they will respond to DDOS attacks in regards to Overwatch 2, and Freja’s play test nor competitive 6v6 likely won’t be extended despite the frequent server issues.
