Overwatch 2 just gave one hitscan hero a buff, making it easier for players to pick him up and use him effectively.
As a game filled with dozens of different heroes and abilities, Overwatch 2 devs tend to roll out regular updates, including balance changes, to spice things up. Oftentimes, this is done to switch up the meta as some heroes fall off due to nerfs, and vice versa.
Looking at Season 15’s March 25 update, we have Mauga getting hit with some significant nerfs while Roadhog got his maximum healing buffed. Alongside these, several DPS heroes received tweaks as well.
Some of the hitscans are also definitely eating good this patch, including one that has been quite an underwhelming pick for a while.
New update just made it easier for players to hit their shots with Soldier 76
In the latest patch, devs made an adjustment to Soldier 76’s Heavy Pulse Rifle. His primary fire now uses a larger projectile size of 0.07 meters, which, in a way, makes it easier for players to land their shots more consistently.

Soldier 76 isn’t exactly a bad hero. It’s just that other DPS and hitscans outclass him. His ultimate can also be easily interrupted, forcing you to rely on good positioning or other teammates’ abilities to survive. As seen in Overbuff, though he has quite a decent pick rate, his less-than-50 % win rate across all ranks isn’t too impressive.
Overall, he has a forgiving playstyle as he’s easier to play than most, but someone like Sojourn, for example, brings more to the table with high mobility and burst. Meanwhile, it can be a bit harder for Soldier 76 to bring someone from full health to zero, especially if you struggle to land his rockets.
But now that his bullet size has been buffed, more players may pick him up soon. Those in lower ranks or beginners to the game will be more effective in playing as him, and it certainly doesn’t rule out those in high elo, where movement is better, to be even more consistent in hitting their shots as well.

With the bigger bullets, it would also be easier to chip away at a supports’ health and stop them from regenerating health from their passive.
