Machop remains one of the most memorable creatures in the franchise, and in Pokemon Go, its final evolution, Machamp, excels in combat. So, learn how to get this fighter, its other stages, and Shiny versions.
Machop is one of the 151 original Pokemon from the Kanto region, and in Niantic’s game, it is one of the best Fighting-type Pokemon available.
To celebrate the end of the previous season, Machop was featured as the main attraction of the Community Day Classic event. Then, its final stage – Machamp – got its Gigantamax form, and now it’s kicking off the Delightful Days season as a Max Monday headliner.
So, learn everything you need to know to catch this creature and take it to its full potential.
How to get Machop in Pokemon Go
Having been introduced to the game since launch, Machop has had many ways to be caught. However, currently, it can only be found:
- As a wild encounter
- As a 2-Star Max Battle boss (increased spawns during the June 9 Max Monday)

Previously, players could hatch Machop from 2km, 5km, and 7km Eggs. It has also appeared as a Tier 1 Raid boss and as a reward for completing plenty of Field/Special/Timed Research.
For a while, its Shadow version was part of the Team Go Rocket, and trainers could rescue it from Cliff‘s grasp.
How to evolve Machop into Machoke and Machamp
Tiny Machop is part of a three-member family, which means a good amount of Candy will be required to register all of its forms in the Pokedex. Luckily, there are no special requirements or items. In fact, there’s an alternative for those who don’t want to grind so hard.
To evolve Machop into Machoke, players will need to feed it 25 Candy. To turn Machoke into Machamp, trainers can either feed it an extra 100 Candy or trade it to another player to trigger the evolution.

Machop Candy
With Machop appearing more often as a Max Battle boss during the June 9 Max Monday, players shouldn’t have trouble gathering the required amount of Candy.
However, to do it faster, they can always use Pinap Berries to increase the amount of Candy they receive per catch. Then, they can transfer their extra Dynamax Machop to Professor Willow in exchange for a few more.
They can also set the Pokemon as their Buddy and take it for long walks, or trade some Rare Candy for more Machop Candy.
How to get Gigantamax Machamp
Gigantamax Machamp debuted during its own Max Battle Day as part of the final stretch of the previous season, Might and Mastery.
The event took place on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time.

During those three hours, Gigantamax Machamp took over Power Spots, appearing in 6-Star Max Battles. Players who managed to defeat the powerful creature got the chance to capture it.
For those unaware, once a Gigantamax Pokemon is captured, it returns to its regular state, and the gigantic form is triggered once the G-Max creature joins a Max Battle.
Machop CP in Pokemon Go
Machop’s CP in the wild will vary, even more so if it’s boosted by a weather condition. Plus, as with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Dynamax Machop has during a Max battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it after defeating it.
Max Battle Raid boss CP | TBD |
CP range once captured | 678 – 730 |
Cloudy weather CP range | 848 – 913 |
Machop max CP (Level 50) | 1445 |

Can Machop be Shiny?
Yes, Machop can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was added to the game during the Battle Showdown event back in 2019. Shiny Shadow Machop and Shiny Dynamax Machop are also available.
Shiny hunters can easily spot Shiny Machop thanks to its distinctive golden color, which differs greatly from the grayish body it usually has.
If a Shiny Machop is evolved, players can get a Shiny Machoke and Shiny Machamp, both with green bodies that make them look like Hulk’s relatives. Gigantamax Machamp, which is also green, debuted during its Max Battle Day.
It’s worth noting, though, that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter.
The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is to hunt as many Machop as they can until they come across what they’re looking for. Remember to take advantage of the Max Monday featuring Machop to do so.
