Pawniard is a mighty creature from the Unova region, but how do you get your hands on one in Pokemon Go? Learn how to obtain this tiny Pokemon and its evolutions, and check whether they can all be Shiny.

Introduced in Gen 5’s Unova region, Pawniard is a small but formidable Dark/Steel-type opponent with blades on its torso, a good Attack stat, and a versatile move pool.

It might not look like a threat, but the Sharp Blade Pokemon can evolve into Bisharp, a great attacker in Niantic’s game, and it’s soon to get its even more powerful third stage – Kingambit – with a special event called Crown Clash.

How to get Pawniard in Pokemon Go

Pawniard is considered a rare creature in Pokemon Go, which means its spawn rates are very low, making it hard for players to get and evolve it.

Currently, players can find Pawniard as:

  • A wild encounter (not normally)
  • An Egg hatch – 7km Egg (Route Gift) or 12km Egg
  • A Research reward

When Raid rotations allow it, this Dark/Steel-type creature can be seen as a Tier 1 Raid boss, too.

During the upcoming Crown Clash event, where its final stage – Kingambit – will be introduced, players will be able to find it in the wild, defeat it as a Raid boss, and get it through Research tasks simultaneously.

The event, which will run from May 10, 2025, until May 18, 2025, will help trainers gather the required Candy to evolve Pawniard into Bisharp and then into Kingambit.

How to evolve Pawniard into Bisharp and Kingambit

Pawniard is part of a three-member family, and besides needing a lot of Candy, another special requirement must be fulfilled to get the Pokemon’s complete evolutionary line.

To evolve Pawniard into Bisharp, players will need to collect 50 Candy. Then, they’ll have to collect an extra 100 Candy to turn Bisharp into its final form, Kingambit.

However, for the final evolution to be triggered, players must defeat 15 Dark or Steel-type enemies in Raid battles while having Bisharp as their Buddy.

If you’re struggling to collect enough Candy, remember to use Pinap Berries to increase the amount you get per catch. Then, send your duplicate Pawniard to Professor Willow for a few more.

Remember that by setting Pawniard or Bisharp as your Buddy, you’ll also get Candy by walking around.

Can Pawniard be Shiny?

Yes, Pawniard can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as Niantic added this alternate form during the Team GO Rocket takeover in November 2022.

Shiny hunters won’t have a problem spotting Shiny Pawniard, as its usual red helmet, arms, and legs change to electric blue, making it very striking to the eye.

Subsequently, those who evolve a Shiny Pawniard into a Shiny Bisharp and Shiny Kingambit will obtain their versions “dressed” in electric blue, too.

It’s worth noting, though, that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter. The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is to hunt as many Pawniard as they can until they come across what they’re looking for.
