Applin recently made its Pokemon Go debut with a special event, and while its evolutions are also available, they require two special items. So, here’s how you can get both Flapple and Appletun in the game.
Most of the Pokemon in the franchise have different stage evolutions. However, there’s a select group that has a branched evolution system, such as Oddish, Wurmple, Cherubi, Applin, and others.
This means that they don’t change forms over their previous stage, but they get two (or more) different forms from the same base stage creature, leaving the decision up to the player.
In Gen 8’s Applin’s case, it can turn into either Flapple or Appletun in Pokemon Go, and here’s a step-by-step on how to get them both.
Applin evolutions explained
The dual Grass/Dragon-type Applin has branched evolutions, though its evolutionary line is a bit more complicated than others.
The Apple Core Pokemon has three forms – Flapple, Appletun, and Dipplin – and the latter can then evolve into another creature called Hydrapple. However, don’t fret, as for now, only Flapple and Appletun are available.
This is because Applin, Flapple, and Appletun debuted with Gen 8, while Dipplin and Hydrapple did so with Gen 9.

How to get Applin in Pokemon Go
Applin was added to the game during the Sweet Discoveries event, which kicked off on April 24, 2025, and will remain live until April 29, 2025.
Starting with the event and moving forward, Applin can be found:
- As a wild spawn
- As a Research reward – Paid Timed Research
- While searching for Apples
As time goes by, players might get the chance to find Applin as a Raid boss, as an Egg hatch, or even as a free Research task reward, but that’s up to Niantic and their future plans.

How to evolve Applin into Flapple & Appletun
Pokemon Go players looking to evolve Applin into Flappple will need to gather 200 Candy. But that’s not all, as they will also require 20 Tart Apples.
On the other hand, to evolve Applin into Appletun, another 200 Candy will be required, but this time with 20 Sweet Apples instead.
The Candy requirement for both evolutions is extremely high, so remember to use Pinap Berries to increase the amount you receive per catch, and then send the Applin you don’t intend to evolve over to Professor Willow for a few more. You can also set the Apple Core creature as your Buddy and go for walks.
How to collect Apples
From today on, players may discover apples while walking in the wild, and tapping on them will reward trainers with either Sweet Apples, Tart Apples, or Applin encounters.
The apples will also have increased chances of appearing around Mossy Lure Modules, and they are a new key item, as they are required to evolve Applin.

Key differences between Flapple and Appletun
While both Flapple and Appletun maintain the same dual Grass/Dragon typing, they do have different stats, maximum CP, and move pools.
Flapple (2788 max CP) is better at attacking due to its higher Attack stat, while Appletun (2772 max CP) is more of a defensive foe thanks to its high Stamina.
As for the moves, they both have good and similar Grass and Dragon-type attacks such as Bullet Seed, Seed Bomb, Dragon Pulse, and Outrage. However, Flapple has one Flying-type move (Fly), and Appletun has one Ghost-type move (Astonish).
Applin, Flapple, and Appletun stats, moves, resistances & weaknesses

Flapple | 214 | 144 | 172 | 2788 |
Appletun | 178 | 146 | 242 | 2772 |
These are the move pools available for each creature:
POKEMON | FAST MOVES | CHARGED MOVES |

Applin | – Astonish (Ghost) | – Struggle (Normal) |
Flapple | – Dragon Breath (Dragon/STAB) – Bullet Seed (Grass/STAB) | – Seed Bomb (Grass/STAB) – Dragon Pulse (Dragon/STAB) – Outrage (Dragon/STAB) – Fly (Flying) |

Can Applin, Flapple, and Appletun be Shiny?
No, Applin and its evolutions – Flapple and Appletun – cannot be Shiny in Pokemon Go, yet.
Usually, when a new Pokemon debuts in the game, it doesn’t do so alongside its Shiny version. That way, Niantic can save the Shinies for another special event.
However, once Shiny Applin, Shiny Flapple, and Shiny Appletun are released, players will be able to quickly spot them thanks to how their usual red tones turn green, as a nod to the Granny Smith apple variation.
It’s worth remembering, though, that the overall odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter. The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is to hunt for tons of wild creatures, challenge every Raid boss, and hatch as many Eggs as they can until they come across what they’re looking for.
That’s everything on how to get Applin and evolve it into Flapple and Appletun in Pokemon Go. Don’t forget to check out the latest Pokemon Go events, including the current Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
