Best Ultra League team in Pokemon Go season 24

pokemon go battle league ultra league best team tales of transformation season

Competitive players looking for a bigger challenge in Pokemon Go‘s Ultra League should try out our recommended team if they want to become the Go Battle League champion.

With every new season, the three main tournaments in the game’s PvP – Great, Ultra, and Master – reset and the meta changes. This means every three months, trainers are forced to rebuild their teams and find new strategies to climb once again to the top of the table.

As only Pokemon under 2500 CP can participate, players must think carefully about the three chosen ones they’ll bring to the battling arena. So, to help out, we’ve gathered the ultimate fighters and designed the best team for the Pokemon Go Ultra League. Take a look!

Best team for the Pokemon Go Ultra League

Currently, the best team that trainers can use in the League includes Corviknight, Bellibolt, and Lapras, as these are three of the strongest fighters, and they all offer good coverage against most of the major League opponents.

Like most Steel-type Pokemon, one of Corviknight’s advantages is the many resistances it has. That, along with its very good Defense and Stamina stats, makes this a very difficult creature to take down.

Even though it’s the only Fast Move that doesn’t benefit from STAB, Sand Attack offers great coverage and has a very fast energy gain. As for the Charged Moves, Air Cutter is quite spammy, so it can help you take down the opponent’s shields. Plus, it benefits from STAB and has a 30% chance of boosting your Attack stat by 25%. Payback, on the other hand, is a coverage nuke all trainers using Corviknight should have as a secondary choice.

The pure Electric-type from Bellibolt is ideal to face the many Water-types in the current meta. Plus, it has pretty good stats – with a lot of Stamina – and a very powerful move pool players can work with.

While Thunder Shock provides maximum energy generation, Sucker Punch can expand Bellibolt’s coverage while also dealing good damage and energy generation. The Charged Moves should be Parabolic Charge to increase the user’s Defense stat by 25%, and the nuke Zap Cannon to decrease the target’s Attack stat by 20%.

Lapras has incredible bulk and an impressive (and vast) move pool. And even though it would be better to play to its strengths by choosing only the moves that benefit from STAB, taking advantage of Psywave as the Fast Move is a must. It offers the most energy generation out of all the options, and it expands Lapras’s coverage.

Skull Bash, Blizzard, and Hydro Pump are quite expensive moves. Instead, use Sparkling Aria for a solid Charged Move with STAB. It costs the same as Surf but does five more damage. Then use Ice Beam to get coverage against Grass, Dragon, and Flying opponents.

If you don’t have access to either of those three Pokemon or you come across an opponent that targets your team’s weaknesses, we have a long list of other powerful creatures that can help you dominate the Ultra League.

Best Pokemon for Pokemon Go Ultra League

Forretress

pokemon go forretress
  • Fast Move: Volt Switch
  • Charged Moves: Rock Tomb and Earthquake
  • Type: Bug/Steel
  • Resistances: Poison, Grass, Steel, Psychic, Normal, Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Bug
  • Weaknesses: Fire

Forretress is a solid choice for any team as it boasts numerous useful resistances and it’s only weak to one type (Fire), which is not being played a lot during this season. Plus, it has a great Defense stat.

Bug-type moves are not good at all in Pokemon Go, so use Volt Switch as the Fast Move to expand the coverage and deal decent damage.

For the Charged Move, use Rock Tomb to decrease your opponent’s Attack stat and bait their shields. Then you can finish them up with Earthquake, a solid Ground-type nuke that saves you from your only weakness.

Cradily

Cradily in the Weather Cup
  • Fast Move: Acid
  • Charged Moves: Grass Knot and Rock Tomb
  • Type: Rock/Grass
  • Resistances: Electric and Normal
  • Weaknesses: Bug, Fighting, Ice, and Steel

The surprise star of this cup is Cradily, which has never really had any viability in the Pokemon Go Battle League before but is currently ranking at number one on PvPoke. This is most likely thanks to a very strong moveset and bulkiness.

While Bullet Seed and Infestation have fast energy generation, Acid is pretty decent and can help Cradily mainly against Grass-type opponents. Meanwhile, Rock Tomb is effective against Fire types and decreases the target’s Attack stat by 20%, and Grass Knot can take care of Water enemies. Plus, both benefit from STAB.

Empoleon

pokemon go empoleon
  • Fast Move: Metal Sound
  • Charged Moves: Hydro Cannon and Drill Peck
  • Type: Water/Steel
  • Resistances: Steel, Poison, Ice, Water, Rock, Psychic, Normal, Flying, Fairy, Dragon, and Bug
  • Weaknesses: Electric, Fighting, and Ground

This dual Water/Steel-type Pokemon has climbed the ranks in the League and sits at the top thanks to its powerful Attack and formidable Defenses. It serves as a great counter to Pokemon like Togekiss, Galarian Weezing, and Tinkaton.

Metal Sound is a good, fast charge move, which makes it very spammy. As for the Charged Move, Hydro Cannon is the way to go due to its high damage and very low cost. Plus, it’s one of the best Water-type moves in the whole game. If you can afford a secondary Charged Move, Drill Peck can help you expand your coverage.

Galarian Moltres

pokemon go galarian moltres
  • Fast Move: Sucker Punch
  • Charged Moves: Fly and Brave Bird
  • Type: Dark/Flying
  • Resistances: Psychic, Ground, Grass, Ghost, and Dark
  • Weaknesses: Electric, Fairy, Ice, and Rock

Galarian Moltres is one solid choice to target some League champions like Feraligatr, Giratina, and Lapras. Plus, its bulky Defense stat can help it lead any team.

Sucker Punch is a little faster and cheaper than the other Fast Move, so go with it and spam it all you can to waste the enemy shields and build up your Charged Moves.

Brave Bird is very expensive and has a self-debuff, but it deals outstanding damage and has STAB, while Fly is relatively cheap and has good DPE.

Registeel

Registeel in Pokemon Go
  • Fast Move: Lock-On
  • Charged Moves: Focus Blast and Zap Cannon
  • Type: Steel
  • Resistances: Poison, Normal, Flying, Rock, Bug, Steel, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Ground, and Fighting

The Legendary Titan Registeel is a magnificent choice for the Ultra League. It has access to one of the best energy-generating Fast Moves in the game, an incredible amount of resistances, and key wins against some of the biggest threats like Clefable, Tentacruel, and Feraligatr.

That Fast Move we mentioned? It’s Lock-On, and you’ll need it. With this, you’ll be able to unleash the powerful Charged Moves Zap Cannon, with outstanding damage, and Focus Blast, which adds some useful Fighting-type coverage.

Jellicent

pokemon go jellicent
  • Fast Move: Hex
  • Charged Moves: Surf and Shadow Ball
  • Type: Water/Ghost
  • Resistances: Normal, Fighting, Water, Steel, Poison, Ice, Fire, and Bug
  • Weaknesses: Dark, Electric, Ghost, and Grass

This gigantic jellyfish offers trainers an incredible bulk, along with a vast list of resistances that will keep it alive during an encounter.

Both of Jellicent’s Fast Moves are great options that benefit from STAB. While Bubble offers stronger Water-type coverage, Hex has slightly faster energy generation, as well as Ghost-type coverage.

To balance Hex, go with Surf as your Charged Move. It is not only really cheap, but it also deals great damage and benefits from STAB. As your secondary option, use the nuke Shadow Ball. If you need a different type of coverage, you can switch Shadow Ball for Ice Beam.

Togekiss

Togekiss in Pokemon GO
  • Fast Move: Peck
  • Charged Moves: Aura Sphere and Dazzling Gleam
  • Type: Fairy/Flying
  • Resistances: Bug, Dragon, Fighting, Ground, Dark, and Grass
  • Weaknesses: Electric, Ice, Poison, Rock, and Steel

Togekiss is another great all-rounder to bring into the League, thanks to its amazing type coverage – it has access to six different types in its Charged Move pool.

We recommend using Peck as a Fast Move as it is fast and cheap. For the Charged Moves, go with Aura Sphere to expand your coverage and bait the opponent’s shields. Then, use the nuke Dazzling Gleam to deal devastating Fairy-type damage with STAB.

Regidrago

regidrago on a pokemon go background
  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath
  • Charged Moves: Dragon Energy and Hyper Beam
  • Type: Dragon
  • Resistances: Electric, Fire, Grass, and Water
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fairy, and Ice

The Legendary Regidrago might be a tad hard to get, but those who have one can exploit its good Attack stat, massive Stamina, and powerful Dragon-type moveset in the Battle League.

Go with Dragon Breath (multipurpose) and Dragon Energy (cheap and incredibly strong) for a powerful Dragon-type moveset that benefits from STAB. Then add the nuke Hyper Beam as a secondary Charged Move for more coverage.

Grumpig

pokemon go grumpig
  • Fast Move: Psywave
  • Charged Moves: Dynamic Punch and Shadow Ball
  • Type: Psychic
  • Resistances: Psychic and Fighting
  • Weaknesses: Bug, Dark, and Ghost

Even though Grumpig doesn’t have Cresselia’s impressive bulk, this Pokemon is a great choice for the Ultra League as it offers wide coverage and decent, solid stats.

While Charge Beam is a good fast-charge Fast Move, Psywave is way better, as it also benefits from STAB. Pair it with the Charged Move Dynamic Punch. It is cheap and can expand – even more – this Pokemon’s coverage.

As a secondary Charged Move, go for Shadow Ball. It is actually not expensive at all, and it is a Ghost-type nuke that will leave your Grumpig protected against several opponents.

Cresselia

Cresselia in Pokemon Go's Sinnoh Cup
  • Fast Move: Confusion
  • Charged Moves: Grass Knot and Moonblast
  • Type: Psychic
  • Resistances: Fighting and Psychic
  • Weaknesses: Bug, Ghost, and Dark

The single Psychic-type Legendary has proven to be a useful bulky Pokemon that combines strong defensive stats with good moves.

With Confusion as its Fast Move to deal high damage and Moonblast as its Charged Move to debuff the opponent’s Attack stat by 20%, a powered-up Cresselia is a perfect choice to finish up a battle. Add Grass Knot for coverage, and you’re all set.

However, be particularly wary of its weaknesses, mostly to Ghost types, as those are constantly exploited in the league.

Runerigus

  • Fast Move: Shadow Claw
  • Charged Moves: Rock Tomb and Shadow Ball
  • Type: Ground/Ghost
  • Resistances: Poison, Normal, Fighting, Electric, Rock, and Bug
  • Weaknesses: Dark, Ghost, Grass, Ice, and Water

The very strange-looking Runerigus is a great choice, thanks to its particular dual Ground/Ghost type combination and high Defense stat.

To play this Pokemon correctly, you should teach it the Fast Move Shadow Claw. It benefits from STAB and has a good balance between damage and energy generation.

Even though it doesn’t benefit from STAB, pair Shadow Claw with Rock Tomb. It deals good damage, is cheap, expands the Pokemon’s coverage, and decreases the target’s Attack stat by 20%. For the secondary Charged Move, go with the nuke Shadow Ball to deal high damage.

Dusknoir (Shadow)

pokemon go dusknoir
  • Fast Move: Astonish
  • Charged Moves: Shadow Punch and Dynamic Punch
  • Type: Ghost
  • Resistances: Normal, Fighting, Poison, and Bug
  • Weaknesses: Dark and Ghost

This Pokemon works best as the lead or charger of a team. Plus, it has the necessary Defense to stand its ground while dealing good damage.

Astonish is a very spammy move that will allow it to access its Charged Moves fast while also getting rid of the opponent’s shields. The key to Dusknoir making it into the League is mainly because of Shadow Punch, an excellent Ghost-type move, and Dynamic Punch, a Fighting-type attack that expands its coverage.
