Shiny hunters can add Shiny Blacephalon to their teams, as it will finally debut in Pokemon Go. Here are the best counters to target this Ultra Beast’s weaknesses during the encounter.
The extradimensional creatures known as Ultra Beasts were introduced to the franchise in Pokemon Sun & Moon and have been making their way to Niantic’s game since 2022.
Out of the eleven beasts, the last ones to join Pokemon Go were Stakataka and Blacephalon, and they did so without their Shiny versions.
However, that’s about to change, as the current Might and Mastery season is debuting both Shiny Blacephalon (in the Western Hemisphere) and Shiny Stakataka (in the Eastern Hemisphere).
Blacephalon weaknesses in Pokemon Go
As a dual Fire/Ghost-type Pokemon, Blacephalon is weak to Dark, Ghost, Ground, Rock, and Water-type moves, so you must build your team with those types in mind. Luckily for you, there are plenty of strong fighters to choose from.
However, its particular type combination gives Blacephalon plenty of resistances you need to look out for. This Ultra Beast is resistant to Fairy, Fire, Grass, Ice, Poison, Steel, Bug, Fighting, and Normal-type attacks, so avoid using those at all costs, as they won’t do much damage.

If you don’t have any of the creatures mentioned, go with their alternative or regular versions, or just use your best attackers to target Blacephalon’s weaknesses. Remember that they should be properly leveled up and know the matching movesets.

How to get Blacephalon in Pokemon Go
Similar to other Ultra Beasts, the only way to catch Blacephalon in Pokemon Go is through 5-Star Raid battles. Players will have to challenge and defeat this Ultra Beast first, then attempt a catch using the Premier Balls they are given – the amount will vary depending on their performance during battle.
The good news is Blacephalon will return as a Raid Boss from April 9, 2025, until April 21, 2025. However, its availability is restricted to the Western Hemisphere, as Stakataka will appear in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Additionally, it will be featured in two Raid Hours in its respective Hemisphere. One will take place on April 9th and the other on April 16th from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM local time.
When challenging this Legendary, try to use Golden Razz Berries and land Excellent Curveball Throws to increase your chances of catching it.

Can Blacephalon be Shiny?
Yes, Blacephalon can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special version was recently added to the game through 5-Raid battles along with Shiny Stakataka.

Blacephalon is one of the weirdest-looking creatures in the franchise, and players will be able to spot its Shiny version very quickly as its usual white body goes electric blue. Very hard to miss!
However, keep in mind that the odds of finding a Shiny Blacephalon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter. The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is take on as many Blacephalon Raids as they can until they come across what they’re looking for.
