In Pokemon Go, there are over 20 different Team Go Rocket Grunts, and you can beat all of them for a chance to catch one of their Shadow Pokemon.
Each time you defeat a Grunt, you’ll receive a Mysterious Component, and by piecing six of them together, you’ll build a Rocket Rader to locate one of the leaders – Giovanni, Cliff, Sierra, or Arlo.
However, every Grunt has its own unique lineup, but they won’t tell you what Pokemon they’re using before you battle them. Instead, they’ll use a taunt that offers up a hint at the type of creature they’ll send out.
If you come across ‘Coiled and Ready to Strike’, it means you’ll be facing the dreaded Poison-type. So, get ready to battle with our top counters.
The Grunt lineups shown below are correct as of September 17, following the launch of the Tales of Transformation season and the Psychic Spectacular: Taken Over event.
Current ‘Coiled and Ready to Strike!’ lineup
As mentioned above, this particular Grunt will only use Poison-type Pokemon, with the following potential encounters:
PHASE 1 | PHASE 2 | PHASE 3 |
---|---|---|
Qwilfish ![]() | Nidorina ![]() | Amoonguss ![]() |
Tentacool* ![]() | Nidorino ![]() | Toxicroak ![]() |
Skorupi* ![]() | Galarian Weezing ![]() | Weezing ![]() |
Note: Pokemon marked with a * can be Shiny.
As you can see from the potential lineups above, they are all very different Poison-type creatures, with only Nidorina and Nidorino having any family resemblance.
- Nidorina, Nidorino, and Weezing are pure Poison types.
- Skorupi is a dual Poison/Bug creature, Toxicroak is Poison/Fighting, and Galarian Weezing is Poison/Fairy.
- As for the others, they have Poison as their secondary type, with Qwilfish and Tentacool being Water/Poison types, and Amoonguss being a Grass/Poison type.
All Poison-type Pokemon are weak against Ground and Psychic opponents. In this particular case, the entire lineup is weak against Psychic, so focus on building your team around that type.
Additionally, you can use Ground to target Qwilfish, Nidorina, Nidorino, Weezing, Galarian Weezing, Toxicroak, and Tentacool. Then add a Flying type for extra support against Skorupi and Amoonguss – and Toxicroak if needed.
