Pokemon Go Kyurem Raid guide: Weaknesses & best counters

pokemon go kyurem raid guide counters

Kyurem is a tough opponent to take down in Pokemon Go Raid battles, so those wondering how to defeat this Legendary can take a look into its weaknesses as well as our recommended counters.

This year’s Pokemon Go Tour focuses on the Unova region, so Niantic is bringing back the Tao Trio, which means Kyurem will appear as a Raid boss along with Reshiram and Zekrom.

However, this time around it will spawn in its Black and White versions that come as the result of fusing Kyurem with Zekrom and Reshiram, respectively.

Kyurem weaknesses in Pokemon Go

The Legendary Kyurem is a dual Dragon/Ice-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak against Dragon, Fairy, Fighting, Rock, and Steel-type moves, which gives trainers many options to take into battle.

It’s important to know what not to use as well. Kyurem is resistant to Electric, Grass, and Water-type attacks, so avoid taking Pokemon of those types into battle wherever possible, as they won’t last long. Likewise, avoid using those types of moves, as they won’t deal much damage.

Kyurem best counters

These are some of the best counters to defeat Kyurem in Pokemon Go:

We’ve included a mix of MegasLegendariesShadow, and more common Pokemon in the table above, so there should be something for every trainer to use.

If you don’t have any of those counters or their alternate forms, use your strongest Pokemon to target Kyurem’s weaknesses. Just make sure that your team is properly leveled up and has matching movesets.

How to get Kyurem in Pokemon Go

If you want to add Kyurem to your collection, you’ll first need to defeat it in a 5-Star Raid Battle. It’s worth noting that this time around, Kyurem won’t be featured in its regular form but in both fused forms – Black Kyurem and White Kyurem.

After the player defeats either, then they’ll get a limited amount of Premier Balls based on their performance during the battle to attempt a catch at regular Kyurem.

The Legendary fused forms will appear in the in-person events from the Go Tour which will take place in New Taipei City and Los Angeles from February 21, 2025, until February 23, 2025. Then, they’ll come back for the Global event which will kick off on March 1, 2025, a will last until March 2, 2025.

How to fuse Kyurem with Reshiram & Zekrom

Once you manage to catch regular Kyurem, you can either fuse it with Zekrom or Reshiram. Here are the specified requirements for the mechanic:

Black Kyurem

  • Kyurem
  • Zekrom
  • x1,000 Volt Fusion Energy
  • x30 Kyurem Candy
  • x30 Zekrom Candy

White Kyurem

  • Kyurem
  • Reshiram
  • x1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy
  • x30 Kyurem Candy

Volt and Blaze Fusion Energies can be gathered by defeating the different fused Kyurem in Raids multiple times.

Fused Kyurem will remain in this form until the player separates them. But worry not, as separating the Pokemon will have no cost at all.

Kyurem CP in Pokemon Go

As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Kyurem has during a Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it after defeating it. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.

Can Kyurem be Shiny?

Yes, Kyurem can be Shiny in Pokemon Go. It made its debut during the Holidays 2021 event and will be back for the Pokemon Go Tour Unova events. This means those who fuse a Shiny Kyurem can get Shiny Black Kyurem and Shiny White Kyurem too.

Players can spot Shiny Kyurem easily due to the evident color changes. Its gray body is even darker, the yellow detail on its forehead goes from yellow to pink and its light-blue tail, wings, and head change to a subtle purple tone.

Nonetheless, you’ll need a lot of patience – and luck – to find a Shiny Kyurem, though, as there’s estimated to be around a 1 in 20 chance of encountering one. Take part in as many Raids as possible and hope for the best.
