The Johto region’s adorable Teddiursa has always been able to evolve into Ursaring in Niantic’s game, but following the November 2022 Community Day, another evolution was added to the family: Ursaluna.
Ursaluna first appeared in Pokemon Legends Arceus on the Nintendo Switch, where players had to follow a very specific method to evolve it. Unsurprisingly, there’s also a tricky evolution process in Pokemon Go, and here’s how to get through it step by step.
How to evolve Teddiursa into Ursaring
You can evolve Teddiursa into Ursaring with the help of 50 Teddiursa Candy. There are no special items or Buddy tasks required for the evolution process, so it should be quite simple for every trainer.
If you’re struggling to gather the required amount of Candy, remember that you can use Pinap Berries while catching Teddiursa to earn a boost in Candy or set the Pokemon as your Buddy to collect the item while exploring.
If you’re looking to catch Teddiursa, it will be appearing in the upcoming Fuzzy Buddy Research Day along with Pancham, Stufful, and Cubchoo. The event will take place on March 29, 2025, and will run from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time.
How to evolve Ursaring into Ursaluna
Turning Ursaring into Ursaluna costs another 100 Teddiursa Candy, but triggering the evolution has a special requirement: it can only be done when a full moon appears in the Pokemon Go skies.
Previously, this full moon effect has been triggered by in-game events like the Teddiursa Community Day in November 2022, but to make things more accessible for all trainers, it’s also linked to full moon appearances in the real world.

While regular Ursaluna was introduced to the franchise with Pokemon Legends Arceus, Bloodmoon Ursaluna – this Pokemon’s new form – was released in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, more specifically in the Teal Mask DLC storyline.

When players get through the Kitakami region, they learn there is a particular Ursaluna known as the “Bloodmoon Beast”, which is why it is called Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
As of March 14, 2025, Bloodmoon Ursaluna is not obtainable in Pokemon Go. However, we will update this guide if Niantic decides to add it to the game.

Can Teddiursa, Ursaring, and Ursaluna be Shiny?
Yes, all three of them – Teddiursa, Ursaring, and Ursaluna – can be Shiny in Pokemon Go.
Shiny Teddiursa and Shiny Ursaring were added to the game during the Safari Zone in St. Louis in March 2020, while Shiny Ursaluna was released on the exact same day this evolution was added into Pokemon Go – November 2022’s Community Day.
These Shiny forms are very easy to spot, as Teddiursa and Ursaring’s regular brownish fur turns lime green. Ursaluna’s Shiny variation is a bit more subtle, with gray claws instead of white and part of its fur changing from deep brown to garnet red.
