A select group of Clone Pokemon is available in Pokemon Go, but how exactly can you get them? And are they actually any different from regular creatures? Here’s all the information you’ll need about the Clones.
First appearing during the Pokemon Go 2020 Pokemon Day Celebration event, these alternate versions were inspired by the franchise’s first-ever movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back – where the Legendary creates powerful Clones of classic creatures for one of the most epic battles in history.
Visually, these souped-up versions are nearly identical to their standard counterparts, except for some slick skin patterns. But the real kicker? Clone Pokemon come with powerful Charged Moves, making them actual heavy hitters in battles.
Currently, only Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Pikachu have gotten their Clone versions in Niantic’s game, and here’s how to catch ’em all.
How to get Clone Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise
The three Kanto starters’ final stages are the only ones to receive their Clone versions. They were all part of the Pokemon Day 2020 event and could only be obtained through Raid Battles.
Clone Venusaur, Clone Charizard, and Clone Blastoise appeared as Raid bosses from February 25, 2020, until March 2, 2020, and they haven’t returned since then.

When caught, each one had its Community Day exclusive move, which is as follows:
- Clone Venusaur: Frenzy Plant
- Clone Charizard: Blast Burn
- Clone Blastoise: Hydro Cannon
How to get Clone Pikachu
Unlike the others, Clone Pikachu could only be found when taking a GO Snapshot. This was part of the aforementioned Pokemon Day Celebration that took place between February 25, 2025, and March 2, 2025, which means it is currently unavailable.
Like the final evolutions of the Kanto starters, Clone Pikachu also boasted a powerful multi-bar Charge Move: Wild Charge.

Other Clone Pokemon
As of writing, there aren’t any Clone Pokemon that can be found in the mobile game, but they will surely make a return at some point.
Niantic may even add other species, following the other Clones who were featured in the movie:
- Squirtle
- Pidgeot
- Sandslash
- Nidoqueen
- Vulpix
- Ninetails
- Wigglytuff
- Vileplume
- Meowth
- Psyduck
- Golduck
- Tentacruel
- Rapidash
- Dewgong
- Hitmonlee
- Rhyhorn
- Seadra
- Scyther
- Gyarados
- Vaporeon
Presumably, their respective pre-stages or evolutions’ Clone versions will be available, too. However, keep in mind that Clone creatures cannot undergo the Mega Evolution process.
