Pokemon Go‘s April Fool’s Day 2025 event has started rolling out in some regions, and it’s having an uncanny effect on the game’s digital wildlife.
Niantic has celebrated the date in-game annually with a special 24-hour event since 2018, and this year is no different. In addition to encountering Pokemon in the overworld for the duration of the day-long affair, Trainers will also find Poke Balls, all of which contain a surprise when tapped on.
April Fool’s Day 2025 event details
Pokemon Go’s April Fool’s event runs from 00:00 to 23:59 local time on April 1. For the entire 24-hour period, Poke Balls will appear as wild encounters and will need to be interacted with to discover their contents.
Rather than be completely randomized, each Poke Ball has a chance of containing encounters for the following Pokemon, per Serebii:
- Voltorb
- Hisuian Voltorb
- Electrode
- Hisuian Electrode
- Foongus
- Amoonguss
- Galarian Stunfisk
It’s currently unknown if the list above will remain consistent between regions or if the roster will change depending on territory but considering all are either themed on Poke Balls or feature the motif in some form or fashion – Galarian Stunfisk’s is easy to miss; check the mouth – it stands to reason that all seven were chosen for a reason.
It’s worth noting that every ‘mon featured in the event has a chance of being Shiny, though it’s unknown if these rates are increased for April Fool’s Day or remain the same as standard Shiny rates.
As an added bonus, each Poke Ball encounter will award Poke Balls, so for rural players with limited access to Poke Stops, this is a fantastic opportunity to stock up on the all-important item for other Pokemon Go events.
