Chainsaw Man’s director unveiled his next big project – a Roblox horror game

Chainsaw Man Season 1 did a fantastic job of bringing the incredibly popular manga to life, with the show being praised for its action direction and a level of visual storytelling that makes it worth watching even if you’ve already read the manga.

So, naturally, director Ryu Nakayama is looking to build on that success and do bigger things in the space. Although, in terms of scope, it’s hard to get bigger than Chainsaw Man if you’re in the business of directing shows.

So, Nakayama’s leaving the realm of anime and making his own game… in Roblox.

Chainsaw Man’s director helms Roblox horror game

Roblox has rapidly evolved as the years go by, with the platform having appeal beyond just kids. It’s one of the most popular games in the world in and of itself, but many player-created projects within it have gained a massive following of their own.

For instance, games like Dress to Impress pull hundreds of thousands of concurrent players and can stand on their own as games that appeal to audiences of all ages.

This success has driven devs to try new things that may not appeal to kids as much, which has put us on a very bizarre path where a horror game created by Chainsaw Man’s director actually exists.

Inspired by old-school Japanese horror, The Inn certainly doesn’t look like a typical Roblox game. The blocky character models have been entirely swapped with pale, lanky monstrosities that act as jumpscares.

It’s not just a linear story game, either, it’s a roguelike that’ll have randomized runs and different horrors for the player to contend with each go around.

“It was my first time working on a game, so it was both challenging and exciting,” director Nakayama explained. “Roblox is currently a popular platform overseas, especially in North America, but I’m deliberately trying to give it a stronger Japanese feel. The release is coming soon, so be sure to check it out!”

There’s no actual release date for this project yet other than “soon”, so it may be a while yet until people are able to play it.

However, with big Japanese horror releases like Silent Hill f that are pushing graphics a lot further than Roblox’s engine can on the horizon, it remains to be seen if this project can make a lasting impact.
