Roblox is making a major change to its platform and its games following growing concerns over child safety.
The company has faced increased scrutiny in recent months, including controversy surrounding predators targeting children, the banning of a self-styled predator hunter, and even a public petition calling for the Roblox CEO to be removed.
In response, Roblox is tightening its safeguards, announcing a new partnership with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC), which will replace the platform’s current maturity labels with official ratings.
Roblox games will have official age ratings
This change means that essentially, Roblox games will be rated in the same way as films and traditional video games, like PG, 18+, or R. Each game will carry an official age rating that adapts to the standards of the region where players live, with the intention of giving parents more clarity over the type of content their children could encounter.

“With so many families engaging with Roblox, it is hugely beneficial to provide parents with trusted and familiar ratings no matter where they live,” said the chairperson of the IARC.
They went on to add: “The globally streamlined process will provide Roblox creators with an efficient and proven process for obtaining age and content ratings, while informing parents of what their kids may experience before they play.”
The update follows Roblox’s announcement that age estimation for communication will roll out to all users by the end of 2025. The company has also invested in facial age estimation technology to help keep underage players safe and reduce risks of inappropriate interactions on the platform.
