Super Smash Bros. Ultimate v3.0 update patch notes – Balance changes, Persona 5’s Joker, and more

The v3.0 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate landed on April 17 unleashing a swarm of new content including new fighter Joker, a Stage Builder and a whole lot more.

Even though Nintendo’s crossover fighting title has over 70 players and numerous modes to explore, the developers are just getting started with adding new content given the 3.0 patch will barely incorporate the first of five planned Challenger Packs.

The new update is also going to be introducing balance changes (which can be seen below) that will hopefully level out the playing field in frustrating matchups.

NintendoThe Smash community is bound to get pretty wild with the new Stage Builder.

Long-rumored Stage Builder is finally real

There’s no shortage of imaginative Nintendo fans (see: Super Mario Maker) and now the army of Super Smash Bros. creatives are going to have a brand new Stage Builder to act as their artistic outlet.

Not only with the mode give players tons of tools to fuel their designs, the Smash Bros devs are giving their fans brand new items to experiment with in the new mode.

Joker makes his way into Smash Ultimate

The new update has introduced the long awaited arrival for Persona 5’s main character, Joker.

If players thought they knew Smash, they’ll have to think again with a completely new character with brand new mechanics to master.

Joker is the first of five Challenger Packs to be coming to the game, as Nintendo plans to release the rest of the ensemble through February 2020.

Balance Changes

Nintendo wasn’t kidding when they said they were going to balance their roster of fighters as the list of changes is incredibly long.

There are universal changes coming to all fighters’ Basic Movement. One of the biggest changes comes in the form of the game now making it “easier” to be penalized for spam dodging.

A couple of changes are coming to the Powershield for the entire cast, one of which will “shorten the downtime when performing a perfect shield” for incoming projectiles.

With a roster of more than 70 fighters, notable changes are certainly going to be subjective. However, it is worth mentioning Corrin was the target of numerous changes from everything to their Neutral Special to their Side Smash and so much more.

The new Video Editor is packed with tons of features.

Make smashing compilations with the new Video Editor

The devs are bringing a deep editor that’ll let players cut, clip and edit videos together to produce some high quality montages out of their matches.

The Video Editor will let players choose from the game’s huge list of soundtracks as background music. The mode will even let players add some subtitles to some of their videos along with slick transitions between clips.

After exporting a complete video, there will be a “Post” feature to show off players’ creations in the new “Shared Content” tab.

NintendoWith a host of new Mii outfits to choose from, there might be more colorful characters roaming around the online battlegrounds.

The new patch will also be introducing loads of new customizable options for your Mii fighter.

Some of the new designs will be bittersweet for a lot players hoping to see characters like Knuckles and Tails make into the game. But at least now you can at least dress up your Mii like them and take them into the fray.

There’s tons to unpack so check out the full patch notes below courtesy of Nintendo.
