A highway in Texas was shut down for nearly 14 hours as crews shoveled, hand-picked and vacuumed up 8 million loose dimes from that scattered on the road due to an accident that’s going viral.
On Wednesday, April 30, a trucker driving down US Highway 287 in Wise County, Texas, veered off the road, overcorrected and flipped, as per reports from Fox News.
This incident resulted in a massive cleanup effort, as the driver was hauling a jaw-dropping cargo of 8 million dimes, totaling $800,000.
Crews work 14 hours to clean up the dimes
After tow crews turned the truck back onto its wheels, police and dozens of others set to work on picking up the millions of dimes that had dispersed across the road.
The highway was shut down for nearly 14 hours while they shoveled, hand-picked and used a vacuum to pick up the loose coins, which were then put back into a truck and hauled away.
Two people were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident. Videos of the cleanup made their way around TikTok as well, going viral and garnering a reaction from viewers in the process.
“Were they wrapped rolls of dimes, or in bags or just loose? Where would $800,000 worth of dimes be going?” one user asked.
Another mentioned: “I’m about to go medal detecting cause no way they ain’t leave a couple hundred dimes in the grass lol.”
“They can’t get all of them, I’ll be out there looking next week,” a third user replied.
This isn’t the first time money has been spread across the highway, either. Back in 2021, a TikToker went viral after an armored truck began spilling cash.
