1923 Season 2 has brought about more trouble for the Duttons, but those paying attention to Donald Whitfield will have caught a familiar sight that appears in Yellowstone.

Donald Whitfield has potential to be one of the most vile villains in Yellowstone history. His money-hungry ways and sexual deviancy have built him up to be a man who only cares about himself, and he’s proving to be a real pain to Jacob Dutton and co.

Fans are trusting that Spencer will deal with him once he arrives back in Montana, but there’s still a while to go before that can happen. In the meantime, Whitfield is still very much causing trouble.

And what’s more, his choice of house is bringing back some very troubling Dutton memories.

As spotted on Reddit, those with eagle eyes might have noticed that Donald Whitfield’s house of horrors is actually the official home for the Governor of Montana.

It’s the same regal building at the end of a long leafy road, which in 1923’s context, shows Whitfield as a wealthy man who’s able to live in a home with the proper amenities (i.e. electricity and constant hot water).

However, this does add to the Governor’s Mansion being one of the most harrowing locations in the Yellowstone universe (aside from the Train Station, perhaps).

Not only is this the place where John Dutton III is forced to live after he unwillingly becomes Governor, but it’s also the place of his murder in Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2. After being attacked in the night, he was shot by assassins and placed in his bathroom in order to make it look like a suicide.

Now, 1923 adds a whole other layer of nastiness. Not only is Whitfield a deplorable villain who wants to steal the Dutton ranch to create a ski resort, but he’s also the mastermind of some deeply disturbing sexual activity.

His lover, a young sadistic woman, even enlists other women to be used and abused as their “dolls.” In Episode 4, one of those women was killed by strangulation, and her body was eventually dumped at the Train Station.

So needless to say, this particular mansion is a house of horrors. And while it’s safe to assume the Duttons get the best of Whitfield in the end, it’s clear this house becomes a historical landmark in Montana, to fall into John Dutton’s path all those decades later.
