28 Years Later: The Bone Temple trailer’s hidden detail sparks sinister Jimmy theory

The Jimmy cult in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple got a new trailer this week, featuring a hidden detail that’s led to a truly horrifying fan theory about Spike and the Jimmy cult.

If you remember back to the bonkers ending of 28 Years Later, Spike ends up heading to the mainland and joining a gang of survivors who appear to style themselves on the late child sex offender, Jimmy Savile.

There were plenty of clues that the Jimmy cult are up to no good, but poor Spike has nowhere else to go. Upcoming sequel The Bone Temple is all about the nature of evil, but we can expect that humans will be more of a threat than the infected.

The trailer supports this idea, with the cult partaking in “barbarism” and Spike looking concerned as leader Jimmy asserts his power over them. But one small detail in particular has caught viewers’ attention.

Jimmy Spike theory sparked by 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple trailer

One fan noticed that Spike appears to be wearing one of the gang’s wig and jacket – Jimmy Sh*te. And given he’s not seen much in the trailer, the theory goes that Spike was made to kill him as some sort of initiation ritual.

“Pretty sure Spike is wearing Jimmy Sh*te’s wig and jacket and Jimmy Sh*te isn’t shown with the group anymore,” said the X/Twitter user. “So either something goes wrong and he dies or I’m thinking they have Spike earn his place by killing him…”

Not only would this tie him down to the cult but it could also be head Jimmy’s way of radicalizing their younger members. It’s pretty dark, but then that’s the name of the game in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

The theory has sparked plenty of shocked comments, with one writing, “Nnnnooooooo Jimmy Sh*te.” Another person even claimed to be the character in question, stating, “Hi it’s me Jimmy Sh*te. I’m okay, don’t worry.”

But this isn’t an official account. The real actor, Connor Newall, hasn’t reacted to the theory.

Others have been sharing their concern for Mr Sh*te, including this person who said, “The lack of my other beloved Jimmy (Sh*te) worries me… he’s gonna die early on, isn’t he.”

Another said about Spike, “I think you’re right, the jacket he’s wearing looks like Jimmy Sh*te’s.” A third added, “I think Jimmy Sh*te’s f**king dead oh.”

We’ll have to wait and see when 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple lands in cinemas on January 16, 2026.
