If you’ve just watched the finale and you’re already desperate for Alien: Earth Season 2, I have disappointing news… but there could be a good update on the horizon, if you’re patient.
Noah Hawley’s series, an Alien: Romulus sequel, Predator: Badlands; there’s never been a better time to be a fan of Alien and Predator. After Episode 8, the TV show is up there with the best Alien movies, and undoubtedly one of the greatest shows of 2025.
However, you couldn’t be blamed if you’re concerned about its future. After all, the streaming service era is brutal to new series; just this year, Disney+ axed Goosebumps, and Netflix has cancelled at least seven projects (including The Waterfront).
Thankfully, it’s highly likely that Alien: Earth will return for Season 2 – and you may not need to wait too long. Spoilers to follow…
Is Alien: Earth Season 2 happening?

Alien: Earth Season 2 hasn’t officially been green-lit, but Hawley has a “destination” for the show in mind, and FX’s chiefs want the series to return.
Speaking to Variety, Hawley said: “Season 1 is the proof of concept. And if it works commercially, then Season 2 is about building a model upon which we can envision making a Season 3, 4, 5.
“[It’s] designed to be a recurring series. I don’t know how many seasons that would be. I believe that endings are what give a story meaning, so I have a sense of where I’m going with it.”
FX chief John Landgraf also teased: “We’re pretty bullish on Alien: Earth and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, Alien: Earth is a returning television series, we want him to focus on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”

Is there an Alien: Earth Season 2 release date?

Alien: Earth Season 2 doesn’t have a release date, but if it’s renewed, there’s a chance it could be released in 2027.
To be clear, that’s pure speculation – but it’s based on something Hawley said. “The question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you’re not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?” he told the Evolution of Horror podcast.
This has become a common criticism of modern TV. Look at Severance, which took three years to produce a second season. House of the Dragon Season 2 was truncated to eight episodes, and Season 3 will have taken another two years. Stranger Things Season 5 is dropping over three years after Season 4.
The fact that Hawley is already speaking about “streamlining” the series would suggest it won’t take much longer than two years to produce another season, so sometime in 2027 seems like the most sensible estimate.
There’s another slight problem: the first season was filmed in Bangkok, which Hawley described as “a challenging location for a number of reasons – the health and well-being of your crew; my ability to participate.”
He told Variety he wants to find “the best route forward in producing the show,” so fingers crossed there is a workable, quick solution.
What will happen in Alien: Earth Season 2?

Alien: Earth Season 2 doesn’t have a confirmed synopsis, so it’s presumed it’ll follow the events of the finale, with Wendy and the hybrids “ruling” over Boy Kavalier’s island.
By the end of Episode 8, Wendy had total control over everyone and (almost) everything in the base. Kavalier, Kirsh, Morrow, Dame Sylvia, and Atom Eins (revealed to be a synthetic) are all locked up and under the watchful… face of Wendy’s right-hand Xenomorph.
However, big problems await them. Specifically, Yutani is en route to the base, and the “eye midge” has taken control of Arthur’s dead body. Also, the plant creature is still on the loose.
“I mean, I think that I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I’m telling, what it means. And I don’t know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success,” Hawley said.

The real question is, how far will Alien: Earth go in the franchise’s timeline, given it’s set two years before the original film.
“Those first three films take place over the course of let’s say 100 years, of which Sigourney Weaver’s awake for nearly a year and a half, right? There’s a lot of negative space in there for us to work,” Hawley told Dexerto.
“And I think that because there’s such a lack of mythology in the Alien movies – about how humanity is organised – if we’re going to come to Earth and tell that story, it then informs all of the movies to go ‘oh, I see, well this is how humanity was organised when these movies started.’
“There’s no crystal ball. I don’t have it all worked out. I think what I would say is, is it plausible that the show might end up reaching the moment in which the movie begins and going beyond it? I think that’s certainly plausible.
“Could we see what’s happening on the other side of that phone call – the message sent to Ian Holm, to the ship – we could get there? I don’t know that we would literally do that, but certainly that’s where and when the story is taking place.”
