Hulu is the hidden gem that keeps on giving the streaming goods, so here’s what you need to watch from the August 2025 TV shows and movies lineup.

Frankly, there are so many new TV shows and new movies coming out in 2025 that it’s hard to keep up. Add the world’s streaming services to the list and we’ve got an all-you-can-eat buffet with no room left for dessert.

It’s not surprising we already want to gorge given what’s coming up. Hit shows like Stranger Things Season 5 and Wednesday Season 2 will be making their long-awaited comebacks, while Wicked: For Good and Avatar 3 are set to dominate the big screen.

But what about Hulu? The streamer has some great stuff coming this month, so here’s what you absolutely cannot miss.

Since there are so many movies and shows coming to Hulu in August, we’ve picked out some of the best the platform has to offer out of all the new releases.

King of the Hill, Season 14

Peggy, Bobby, and Hank in King of the Hill
  • Genre: Animated sitcom
  • Release date: August 4, 2025
  • Regions: US
  • How long is it? 10 episodes

Hank Hill is back, and so is “propane and propane accessories”. With 15 years since the show wrapped its original run, King of the Hill returns for a brand-new season, picking up in a very different Arlen, Texas.

Bobby’s all grown up (sort of), Peggy’s still chasing dreams of grandeur, and Hank is struggling to understand a world full of fruit beer and TikTok. It’s a thoughtful, funny, and sometimes surprisingly moving revival that shows the series hasn’t lost its heart, or its deadpan sense of humor.

The Monkey

  • Genre: Horror comedy
  • Release date: August 7, 2025
  • Regions: US
  • How long is it? 1 hour 38 minutes

Before IT: Welcome to Derry lands, why not get your Stephen King fill with The Monkey, which is making its streaming debut this month. The 2025 movie follows twin brothers (both played excellently by Theo James) who are haunted by the return of a cursed toy monkey.

Directed by Osgood Perkins (the menace behind Longlegs), this one leans hard into the fun, making it one of the best King adaptations in recent memory. As we said in our four-star review, “The Monkey, with all its Final Destination-style anticipation and handful of effective jump scares, captures the same playful horror as its clown-faced predecessor.”

Alien: Earth

Aliens in the poster for Alien: Earth
  • Genre: Sci-fi horror
  • Release date: August 12, 2025
  • Regions: US
  • How long is it? 8 episodes

After Alien: Romulus terrified audiences in cinemas, Alien: Earth continues the saga on streaming, and it’s set to be every bit as atmospheric and nerve-shredding. Set decades before Ripley boards the Nostromo, this chapter finds a group of soldiers investigating a mysterious spaceship when it crash-lands on Earth.

As we previously said, the show’s timeline gives it the opportunity to dig deeper into the origins of the Xenomorphs and how they came to be. The first two episodes debut on FX and Hulu on August 12, with single episodes dropping weekly thereafter.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox

  • Genre: True crime drama
  • Release date: August 20, 2025
  • Regions: US
  • How long is it? 8 episodes

Following in the footsteps of Monster and American Crime Story, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox transforms the well‑known true crime case into a drama series, in this instance centering on how she was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, and her years-long battle for freedom.

Grace Van Patten stars as Knox in this eight‑episode series, which Knox herself co‑produces alongside activist Monica Lewinsky, while This Is Us’ K.J. Steinberg serves as showrunner. The new show kicks off with a two-episode premiere on August 20, before moving to single episode weekly drops.
