According to a new rumor, Avengers: Doomsday could be another timey-wimey adventure – and it may involve a scene between Doctor Doom and an OG Avenger.
What do we actually know about Doomsday? It’ll introduce Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, most of the Fox X-Men are reprising their roles, 26 stars have been confirmed to appear, and it’ll set up Avengers: Secret Wars, a movie that’s expected to reboot the MCU.
Everything else you’ve heard is either speculation or ‘leaks’ by insiders. For example, one report revealed a possible link between Doom and Franklin Richards, while another report claimed Doctor Strange will be a villain alongside Doom.
Given Downey’s return to the franchise, there’s plenty of potential for him to face off against his allies from another world – and that includes Steve Rogers.
Avengers: Doomsday rumor says Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom have a scene together
As per insider Daniel Richtman, Chris Evans is currently filming scenes for Doomsday, with Downey scheduled to shoot other scenes at a later date.
In an X/Twitter post, he also wrote: “They are filming a scene with Peggy, Steve and Doom set in the past.”
There’s quite a bit to unpack here. There’s been a long-running theory that it wasn’t Doctor Strange’s actions in Multiverse of Madness that caused an incursion: it was actually Steve returning all of the Infinity Stones at the end of Endgame.
Given that Doom is presumed to be trying to mend the multiverse and prevent the incursion (or possibly even avenge his world), Steve would be at the top of his hit list.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Steve and Peggy’s house had been rebuilt on the Doomsday set, and some rumors even claimed Evans had filmed a fight scene. What if Doom believes he has to kill Peggy as part of his efforts to stop the incursion, and that’s what brings Steve back to the fray?

“The last scene of Avengers: Endgame was Steve and Peggy getting their happy ending. What if the first scene of Avengers: Doomsday was Doom killing them both in the same house?” one user theorized.
Don’t expect Evans to confirm he’s in Doomsday. Earlier this summer, he told Screen Rant he was “sad to be away” from the Marvel world while Doomsday was in production.
“It’s sad to not be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible, and I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party.”
There’s something else to consider: what if the elderly version of Steve we met at the end of Endgame has already lived through Secret Wars?
