Thought Black Mirror was only marketing Nubbins? A “mystery project” linked to Season 7 is being promoted without us even realizing.
If you’ve logged onto TikTok this week, you might have spotted some of your favorite influencers promoting Nubbins, fictional tech that’s an essential part of Black Mirror Season 7.
Obviously they’re not real, but that hasn’t stopped Netflix pulling out all the stops for its marketing nonetheless. As well as obvious billboard ads and social media accounts, something else is coming – and it’s been hidden in plain sight.
Cast your eye back over the initial promotional posters for each Black Mirror Season 7 episode. If you notice something out of the ordinary, make sure you follow the lead for something more.
A QR code is hidden in Black Mirror Season 7 Plaything poster
Can’t find it? Take another look at the poster for Plaything, hiding a well-covered QR code under “only on Netflix.” Scan it and you’ll be taken to an app store… specifically to an app that’s yet to be released.

The so-called TCK96 claims to be a mystery, unpublished project from 1996, and that’s all we know. As the app description points out, “Recovered from a recently rediscovered internal backup disc leaked in the 2000s. Seems this was a higher up’s own personal ‘high pri’ backup disc? Cancellation memos etc. included though redacted. Must have been juicy if you redact documentation on your own backup??”
While the app itself doesn’t appear to be online until April 12 – interestingly two days after Black Mirror Season 7 drops on Netflix – fans have been left a few cryptic clues for what to expect. “Black Mirror. Netflix Games. NETFLIX MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED. Weird software. Retro. Virtual pet. Tuckersoft. Emulator. Radical reclamation. GR0NTH strikes again.”
This links directly back to what we’re expecting to see in Season 7 Episode 4. As the episode synopsis reads, “In a near-future London, an eccentric murder suspect is linked to an unusual video game from the 1990s — a game populated by cute, evolving artificial lifeforms.”

Judging by the poster and trailer, our life forms are essentially Tamagotchi gone wrong, somehow leading to a murder that was never solved… until now. Peter Capaldi plays the main role, with Will Poulter reprising his Bandersnatch character Colin Ritman.
As parent company Tuckersoft is involved, we could be looking at Bandersnatch 2.0 with this app. In all likelihood, Netflix will surely link it back to its own in-platform games line up, reigniting a sense of nostalgia for anyone raised in the early 2000s.
Black Mirror Season 7 drops on Netflix on April 10. In the meantime, keep tabs on the year’s releases with our 2025 movie calendar and our 2025 TV calendar.
