We haven’t even seen the season finale yet, but the trailer for Common Side Effects Episode 10 has given us the best idea yet of Season 2’s direction… if it happens.
If you haven’t seen the hit Adult Swim series yet, it’s a world away from Rick & Morty and Robot Chicken. Common Side Effects is essentially an animated CSI of its own kind, following two former high school lab partners who stumble on a mushroom that can heal almost anything.
Once they get their hands on it, they’re fighting off the corporate interests of the DEA, big pharma, and international businessmen. But now that’s taken a more terrifying turn as an FBI raid closes in.
The new TV show is putting one of its main characters in danger in the season finale, but has the trailer for Common Side Effects Episode 10 already given us a way out?
If Marshall is alive in Common Side Effects Episode 10, Season 2 is set
In Common Side Effects Episode 10, leading man Marshall is presumed dead. The FBI close in on him in a raid, with “tragic consequences” as per the episode synopsis. But the likelihood of the binge-worthy TV show killing off its lead so early on is slim, meaning Season 2 has a way forward.
Even the preview gives us a sense of optimism. The team lead considers Marshall to be “armed and dangerous,” and that’s very much in present tense. So what if the “tragic consequences” are the FBI agents we lose along the way?
“He’s alive, he’s gotta be…” one YouTube comment replied, with a second agreeing, “Please tell me Marshall ain’t really dead, pleassssssse!”
We only need to wait until March 30 to get a definite answer, but the hopes for Common Side Effects Season 2 are already very much there. The series hasn’t been greenlit yet though, so there’s still some way to go.

Writer Steve Hely told the Television Academy: “We pitched out a Season 2 to Adult Swim the other day, and they seemed pretty excited about it. I think they’re probably waiting to see how it does, but we would love to keep going.”
Given it’s unusual for an Adult Swim series to check out after one season, fans are right to keep some sense of hope. Whether Marshall makes the cut… well, that’s a whole separate issue.
