Adult SwimWe’re still two days away from the Season 1 finale, but there’s already a huge update for Common Side Effects Season 2.
The new TV show follows two former high school lab partners who stumble on a mushroom that can heal almost anything. Once they get their hands on it, they’re fighting off the corporate interests of the DEA, big pharma, and international businessmen. But now that’s taken a more terrifying turn as an FBI raid closes in.
It’s essentially an animated crime saga, and a world away from other Adult Swim shows like Rick & Morty. Thanks to the trailer for the upcoming Episode 10, we know a major FBI raid is about to unfold, with Marshall presumed dead at its center.
But Season 1 isn’t going to end on bad news, is it? The show can now take the biggest cliffhanger risks possible thanks to the latest update on Common Side Effects Season 2.
Common Side Effects Season 2 finally confirmed by Adult Swim
Yep! Just 48 hours before we find out if Marshall actually is dead, Adult Swim confirmed Common Side Effects is coming back for a second season.
Adult SwimAdult Swim president Michael Ouweleen said [via Deadline], “Joe and Steve did their job by crafting a boundary-pushing and genre-defining piece of television that re-frames what ‘adult animation’ is capable of. And you all did your job by showing up on Adult Swim and Max to support the show and lighting up your socials to spread the word. So, see? We CAN have nice things.”

Show creators Joseph Bennett and Steve Hely also weighed in, “We are grateful for the enthusiastic response to Common Side Effects and are thrilled to continue exploring this world with our amazing team and the fans who have embraced the show.
“The opportunity to push the boundaries of animation and storytelling on Adult Swim is like a wonderful mushroom dream. Our goal with the show is to transform planet Earth and restore the human spirit. For now, we will settle for a second season.”
It goes without saying that at this stage, we’ve got no idea what’s to come in Common Side Effects Season 2 yet, or when it will be back on our screens.
Logic tells us we can expect it back around September 2026. The show wasn’t officially announced until June 2023 despite being in development previously, meaning we had a year and a half lead time to watching it. As of writing, there’s nothing to say we should suspect anything will change.
However, the Episode 10 trailer might have already given us a clue.
In essence, we’ve got good reason to believe Marshall will be alive for any and all future episodes. The team lead considers Marshall to be “armed and dangerous,” and that’s very much in present tense. So what if the “tragic consequences” we’re supposed to get are the FBI agents we lose along the way?
