If you’re in the mood for a new Netflix thriller, you’re in luck: Extraterritorial, a movie from the company behind Dear Child, is available to stream now.

We’ve all been there: you’re in the mood to watch something, but after an hour of scrolling through all of your streaming services, you still can’t decide what to watch. Don’t worry, we’re going to make it easy for you this weekend.

Last week, Netflix released Havoc, a brilliant action movie from Tom Hardy and the director of The Raid. Now, if you’re willing to take heed of Bong Joon-ho’s words and overcome the “one-inch tall barrier of subtitles”, Netflix has just what you’re looking for: Extraterritorial.

It’s a big decision; after all, you could use this time to catch up on one of the best TV shows of all time. So, before you commit and press play, here’s everything you should know about Extraterritorial.

What is Extraterritorial about?

Extraterritorial is a German-language thriller about a veteran whose son is kidnapped, leading her to a dangerous conspiracy as she takes down anyone who gets in her way.

For more of a flavor of what to expect, Netflix’s expanded synopsis reads: “A new job in the USA and a new life far away from the painful memories of her deployment in the war in Afghanistan: former elite soldier Sara wants a fresh start for herself and her son Joshua.

“But at an appointment at the US consulate in Frankfurt, Joshua suddenly disappears and nobody believes Sara that she even had him with her.

“She immediately begins to comb the consulate for Joshua with military meticulousness, because she is certain: a conspiracy is afoot, her son has been kidnapped and she doesn’t know who is trying to cover it up or why.

“And since the German police have no authority in the extraterritorial area of the embassy, Sara must act immediately to find Joshua. But can she trust the head of security at the consulate or the mysterious Irina, who is being held there and supposedly wants to help Sara? And can Sara even rely on her own perception?”

Who’s in the Extraterritorial cast?

While it doesn’t have a Rotten Tomatoes score yet, you should give Extraterritorial a chance, especially considering the talent involved.

Firstly, it’s directed by Christian Zübert, who wrote the excellent Lammbock and directed Hardcover and six episodes of Bad Banks. Secondly, anyone who’s watched Barbarians should be excited to see Goursaud in another action role, especially one in the vein of Taken and Extraction.
