ID’s The Curious Case of Natalia Grace might have finished with The Final Chapter earlier this year, but Good American Family is revisiting the story – here’s the full release schedule so you know when to tune in, including what time to expect Episode 6, ‘Not Today Satan’.
A lot has happened since the first chapter of the documentary series aired in 2023. Natalia ended up having a fallout with her new adoptive parents Cynthia and Antwon Mans, with The Final Chapter focusing on her escape with the help of the DePauls.
However, Good American Family travels back to 2010, when Natalia was adopted by Michael and Kristine Barnett. Due to the fact that there are two conflicting accounts of what happened, the series follows in Monsters Season 2’s footsteps by telling the story from multiple points of view.
Whether you’ve followed the case from the beginning or you want to learn more, here’s everything you need to know about the release of Good American Family.
How to watch Good American Family
If you’re in the US, the new TV show airs on Hulu or Hulu on Disney+. It makes sense given Good American Family is produced by Calamity Jane and 20th Television, the latter of which is owned by the Walt Disney Company, which also owns Hulu.
For those outside of the US, you’ll be able to watch it on Disney+ – but there will be a bit of a wait. In the UK, for example, it will premiere on May 7, 2025 – nearly two months after the US. However, there is a way around this: use a VPN and log in to Hulu.

Good American Family cast
In her first major role since Grey’s Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo stars as Natalia’s adoptive mother, Kristine Barnett. Creep icon Mark Duplass takes on the father role, Michael Barnett, while newcomer Imogen Faith Reid is playing Natalia Grace.
Other key cast members include:
- Dulé Hill as Brandon Drysdale, a detective investigating the Barnetts
- Sarayu Blue as Valika, a parent of one of the children at Kristine’s daycare
- Christina Hendricks as Cynthia Mans, Natalia’s new adoptive mother
- Kim Shaw as Jennifer, Michael’s new wife after his separation from Kristine

Speaking to THR, Pompeo explained that after playing Meredith Grey for 2ag0 years, “I definitely wanted to do something that was completely different from what I’ve been doing for a long time and this came along.”
She was hesitant at first, having not known much about the Natalia Grace documentaries, but “then I got the script and read it and was blown away by the first episode.”
Duplass was similarly hesitant, but the team convinced him otherwise. “I was skeptical. I read a lot about this story and I was like, ‘Why are we going to do another ripped-from-the-headlines miniseries?
“‘Why do we need this, other than to just go make money? I have 500 movies and TV shows in my queue and so do you, like what’s this all about?’ And they were awesome because they challenged me right back and were like, ‘What do you really know about this story?’”
Adding to this, Reid explained, “I wanted to make sure that I played my own version of Natalia and I wanted to make sure that she was shown with empowerment, that light was seen and just that fight for justice.”
What’s it about?
Good American Family tracks what happened when the Barnetts, a US family with three biological children, adopted Natalia Grace, a Ukrainian orphan with a rare form of dwarfism.

As was explored in the first season of the docu-series, the Barnetts claimed Natalia was masquerading as a child to threaten their family. They eventually had her legal age changed from eight to 22 years old before moving her into an inaccessible apartment alone.
However, according to Natalia and other witnesses’ accounts of what happened, Natalia was allegedly subjected to physical and psychological abuse at the hands of the Barnetts. In the second season, Natalia Speaks, extensive DNA testing proved she was, in fact, a child when the Barnetts moved her out of their home.
Even though the court of public opinion generally sides with Natalia, the criminal charges against the Barnetts were dropped due to insufficient evidence. It’s a difficult story to portray, which is why it’s taking a “multiple points of view” approach.

“Told from multiple points of view, as a means to explore issues of perspective, bias, and trauma, this compelling drama is inspired by the disturbing stories surrounding a Midwestern couple who adopts a girl with a rare form of dwarfism,” reads the official synopsis.
“But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, mystery emerges around her age and background, and they slowly start to suspect she may not be who she says she is.
“As they defend their family from the daughter they’ve grown to believe is a threat, she fights her own battle to confront her past and what her future holds, in a showdown that ultimately plays out in the tabloids and the courtroom.”
Elaborating on the new TV show’s approach, creator Katie Robbins told THR, “I came up with the idea of starting the series in the perspective of Kristine and Michael Barnett, and then at a certain point that shifts, and all of a sudden all of the things that we thought were fact we start to question.
“In that way, we start to grapple with our own biases in unexpected ways.”
