Bad Bunny’s Happy Gilmore 2 character revealed and it’s left Netflix fans divided

Bad Bunny and Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2

Yes, you read that right. Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, is starring in Happy Gilmore 2 alongside Adam Sandler, but his character has left fans divided.

The teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix movie dropped on March 18, 2025, and while plot details are far and few between, the video shows Happy will be returning to the world of golf after a long hiatus.

The first Happy Gilmore became a comedy cult classic, starring Sandler as a failed hockey player who discovers he has an incredible knack for hitting little balls really hard. In a bid to raise money for his grandma, he enters the elitist world of golfing, and hilarious hijinx ensues.

Many of the original cast members will be returning, including Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, and Ben Stiller as Hal L. However, Jared Van Snellenberg won’t be reprising his role as Happy’s goofy caddie Otto.

Fans aren’t sure about Bad Bunny in Happy Gilmore 2

That’s because Bad Bunny will be playing Happy’s caddie in Happy Gilmore 2. No doubt the Puerto Rican superstar will bring a different vibe to the role, but the response to the news has been mixed.

On the more positive side of things, one wrote on X/Twitter, “Bad bunny is going to do well!! He is good.” Another simply wrote, “W for all.”

“Happy Gilmore 2 with Bad Bunny and Sandler? Hope they don’t swing too hard and break Netflix… save some laughs for July 25.”

A fourth wrote on Reddit, “I wasn’t even going to bother watching this but I see Bad Bunny and now I have to.”

Not everyone’s on board, however. “This whole cast seems cheap,” said one. “I have zero hopes as someone who loves the original.”

Another, clearly hellbent on playing devil’s advocate, simply wrote, “Bad Bunny sucks.” And then there are those who are waiting to make their minds up when the Netflix movie drops.

“Adam Sandler, Bad Bunny, and Travis Kelce… this is either cinema or a group chat gone wrong,” said one, with another adding, “I can only imagine how this movie goes.”

Whatever the case, there’s not too long to wait, with Happy Gilmore 2 dropping on Netflix on July 25, 2025.
