Happy Gilmore 2 finally drops first trailer but one person is missing

Happy Gilmore 2 is heading to Netflix, with a new teaser trailer confirming the release date and showing Adam Sandler involved in various golfing antics – but one major cast member appears to be missing.

In one of the longest breaks for a sequel, the original Happy Gilmore landed in 1996, and it quickly proved to be one of Sandler’s funniest films of all time. The story centers around the titular character, a failed hockey player who realizes he has a unique talent for golf.

But he doesn’t quite have the patience or the temper for the game. Thankfully, his coach Chubbs (Carl Weathers) is on hand to show him the way (“it’s all in the hips”). Now, nearly three decades later, Happy will be back for a second round on Netflix.

Other than Weathers, who passed away in February 2024, the main cast are back, including Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, Ben Stiller as Hal L, and, of course, Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin. There are also some newcomers to the cast, including No Bunny as Happy’s caddie.

Another newcomer is pro wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman, aka MJF. While the news of his arrival has sparked plenty of excitement, character details have not yet been released – and he’s nowhere to be found in the new teaser trailer.

While we see all of our fan favorites reprising their roles, the wrestling icon’s character is yet to be revealed. As said by one viewer, “Where is MJF?” Another asked, “How could they cast MJF and not make him Shooter’s son?”

For the record, it was rumored that footballer Travis Kelce would be making a cameo as Shooter’s son, but this has yet to be confirmed. As such, MJF could end up taking on this role in the Netflix movie

A third quipped, “I wonder if MJF is on the cutting room floor again,” in response to the Happy Gilmore 2 trailer. And a fourth chimed in, “MJF nowhere to be seen.”

The plot details are also being kept under wraps, with the description simply reading, “Happy Gilmore is back!” However, the video does tease a little of what to expect – it appears Happy took a break from golfing and is now set to make a return by competing in a major tournament.

Happy and Virginia got their happily ever after, and in the clip she encourages him to get back on the course, saying, “We’re not done with golf. Let them see the Happy I fell in love with.”

Right at the end, the streaming service confirms the release date: July 25, 2025.

Until then, check out the new movies to get excited about in 2025, films heading to cinemas this month, and the new Netflix movies dropping this month.
