The Long Walk will be available on this streaming platform first

You need to see The Long Walk, and if you’d rather wait to watch it at home or you already want to rewatch it after catching it in theaters, this is where and when it should be streaming.

The new movie, directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and based on a novel by Stephen King, revolves around a national competition in which young men have to walk at a speed of at least 3mph – and it only ends when one contestant remains. There’s no consolation prize for the losers either: they die if they stop.

It is one of the best films of 2025. “Harrowing, heartbreaking, and near-flawless, The Long Walk is one of the greatest Stephen King adaptations ever made; walk – nay, run – to watch it as soon as possible. This is an all-timer,” we wrote in our five-star review.

That should be enough to convince you, especially as the movie is about to hit cinemas. It’ll be a while before it’s on a streaming service, but here’s a rundown of when you should be able to watch The Long Walk at home.

How to watch The Long Walk

The Long Walk will be exclusively available in cinemas from September 12.

Unlike The Hunger Games series, which was a young adult adaptation, The Long Walk is a brutal, R-rated film that isn’t for the faint of heart. King even demanded that they show the deaths of young men, otherwise, “What’s the point?”

“I wasn’t going to buckle on that. I knew we were making a tough one. It doesn’t deserve to be PG-13; it deserves to be R,” Lawrence told SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar).

“Stephen also said it had to be an R. To be truthful to the book, it has to be violent, intense, sad. It has to be a tough watch. Whether supporting the war thematics, the financial nihilism thematics, or the anti-violence thematics, it has to retain that intensity.”

Where to stream The Long Walk

The Long Walk will be available to stream on Starz, but it doesn’t have a streaming release date yet.

Earlier this year, Lionsgate announced an extension of its theatrical-to-streaming deal with Starz, with the platform retaining exclusive first pay TV and SVOD window rights to the studio’s films. In layman’s terms, that means Lionsgate’s movies come to Starz before they end up on another platform.

This also comes after a period of uncertainty, with Lionsgate planning to split into two separate entities: Lionsgate Studios and Starz Entertainment. That means there have been some outliers; for example, Den of Thieves 2 came to Netflix before Starz, but that shouldn’t be seen as the new normal.

The Long Walk will definitely come to Starz. After that initial run, as per a new agreement with Amazon, Lionsgate movies will get an exclusive window on Prime Video.

As for when it’ll be able to stream, it’s hard to say. Ballerina was one of Lionsgate’s biggest releases of 2025, and even though it was released in cinemas on June 6 (almost 100 days ago), it’s still not available to watch with a streaming subscription.

At this point, The Long Walk may not drop on streaming until early 2026.

When will The Long Walk be on digital?

The Long Walk could be available on digital as early as October 2025, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

If the movie follows Ballerina’s digital timeline, it’ll take 25 days before you can buy or rent it digitally. That’s a short theatrical window, and given the strong reception to The Long Walk and the fact we’re about to enter the ‘spooky season’, Lionsgate may allow it to have longer legs before it’s available to watch at home.
