Angstrom Levy’s fate in the Invincible comics is worse than you ever imagined

Angstrom Levy in Invincible Season 3 Episode 6

Invincible Season 3 Episode 7 adapted the Invincible War, an infamous arc in the comics that sees Angstrom Levy send an onslaught of multiversal Mark Graysons to Earth. If the TV show follows the source material, things will not end well for the villain.

Angstrom Levy was introduced in Season 2. At first, he wasn’t a bad guy at all – he wanted to use his ability to travel through alternate dimensions to amass the collective knowledge of his other selves and save trillions of lives.

Unfortunately, he ends up gruesomely deformed and mutated after Invincible intervenes (even though Angstrom stopped his procedure to save Mark’s life), and, clouded by the memories of the multiverse, he dedicates his life to getting revenge.

He returned in Episode 6, having gathered nearly 20 alternate (and bad) Mark Graysons. He faced off with Invincible again in Episode 7 – and this is what happens to him in the comics. Huge spoilers to follow… obviously.

What happens to Angstrom Levy in the Invincible comics after Episode 7?

After failing to defeat Invincible, Angstrom tries to retreat to an alternate dimension – but Mark grabs his arm and rips it off as he falls through the portal. Angstrom asks the Engineers (the same mysterious race that helped him after Mark nearly beat him to death) to patch him up… but they say no.

“Promises were made, Angstrom Levy. You gave us assurances, we had a deal and you failed. You do not get a second chance. You do not get to give us orders. You work for us now,” he’s told.

This happens in Issue #60, and we don’t see Angstrom again in the comics until Issue #65 after the Engineers give him a new arm. “You have witnessed first hand what our ambitions have done to this world,” they explain.

Does Angstrom Levy die?

Yes, Angstrom Levy eventually dies in the Invincible comics.

Fast-forward to the Death of Everyone arc in Issue #98, and the Technicians allow Angstrom to return to the main timeline. For a brief time, he believes Invincible has been killed (this is a spoiler for another time), but when it’s revealed he’s actually alive, he resumes his pursuit of revenge and sends Mark back to the deserted, post-apocalyptic dimension he was once stranded.

Mark meets the remaining variants that were abandoned there after the Invincible War – long story short, he ends up teaming up with the one with a mohawk. Meanwhile, Eve manages to make Ansgtrom see the error of his ways – but when he opens up a portal to allow Mark to return, his variant flies through and tries to murder him.

Angstrom apologizes and opens another portal for the variant, but he isn’t so forgiving. He takes Angstrom with him, and Robot figures out a way for Mark to travel to the same dimension to find out if Angstrom is still alive.

He is, but it’s a fate worse than death: when Mark finds him, he’s chained up and torn apart, almost like he’s had a run-in with the Xenobites. The Invincible variant (who also happens to be the Emperor in this dimension) explains: “I told you I knew how to deal with his kind here.

“He promised me assistance in expanding my empire to other dimensions. I tried torturing him for cooperation… but that didn’t pan out. Some nonsense about newfound responsibility.

“So, now my scientists are going to cut it out of him… somehow… I’m only keeping him alive until they succeed.”

In the end, Robot puts him out of his misery – as for why, that’s a story for another day.
