If you’ve just finished Invincible Season 3 and don’t want to wait for Season 4, there’s an easy way to find out what happens next: read the comics, and it’s clear where you should start.
It can feel intimidating to dive into comics – and sometimes, it’s completely warranted. For example, MCU projects (like Daredevil: Born Again) often aren’t based on a single run, borrowing things from different issues across Marvel’s long history.
Mercifully, Invincible is way more straightforward, and the TV show is a direct adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comics. He’s called the series a “second draft” of the story, but so far, it’s been broadly the same (excluding Damien Darkblood’s big change).
So, once you’ve watched Season 3 Episode 8, it’s easy to pinpoint where to start if you want to read the comics.
This is where Invincible Season 3 ends in the comics

Invincible Season 3 ends at Issue #65 in the comics. This includes Mark’s recovery from his fight against Conquest, Eve explaining her powers, Rex Splode’s funeral, the Technicians fixing Angstrom Levy’s arm, and the glimpse of Rus Livingston and the Sequids.
Crucially, this also includes a shocking reveal: Conquest is still alive, and Cecil is keeping him locked up in a 400-ton block of solid tempered steel until he wakes up and tells him “everything there is to know about the Viltrum empire and the threat it poses toward this planet.”
In its final scene, Mark visits Oliver in hospital and apologizes for not protecting him. “If someone tries to hurt my family, someone I love… if there’s another villain out there putting lives in danger, who’s just going to keep coming at me until they finally succeed, I won’t hesitate to kill them.”

Where to start in the Invincible comics before Season 4

If you want to read the Invincible comics before Season 4, you could start with Issue #66. No spoilers for what happens… but I will say it follows Omni-Man and Allen the Alien.
You can read the Invincible comics for free if you have a US library card. They’re also available digitally via Amazon Kindle and other platforms, and if you want to pick up the physical editions, this is where you’ll find Issue #66:
- Invincible: Compendium Two (includes Issues #48-96 and Invincible Returns #1)
- Invincible – Growing Pains (Vol. 13 of the trade paperbacks, includes Issues #66-70 and Invincible Returns #1)
- Vol. 6 of the Invincible Ultimate Collection hardcovers (includes Issues #60-70 plus Invincible Returns #1)
- Vol. 3 of The Complete Invincible Library (includes Issues #46-70)

If you want my advice, don’t just start at Issue #66: read the whole thing! It may seem like an undertaking, but it’s worth the effort (especially because there are a few small differences you wouldn’t otherwise know).
In our interview with Robert Kirkman, he said: “Don’t think you’ve got it figured out. You may get something unexpected at the end. There’s probably going to be some surprises along the way for comic book fans and definitely some tweaks here and there.”
Simon Racioppa, the series’ co-showrunner, also told us that while they’re “staying very closely to the books, we always try to put in little tweaks and surprises and try to expand moments… whatever those episodes are, we always try to surprise our viewers a little bit.”
For comics spoilers, you can learn what happens to Powerplex, discover Angstrom Levy’s fate, and find out if Oliver dies.
You can also keep tabs on the show’s soundtrack and find out why Mark’s blue suit is so important. In our interview with Robert Kirkman, he also explained why Spawn couldn’t appear in the Invincible War and why there may not be a Rex Splode special anytime soon.
